Description
Patented Nov. 3, 1925.
UNITED STATI-:Ys
ERNEST FISCHER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
DISPLAY EASEL.
Application filed March 26, 1925. Serial No. 18,345.
To all whom t may concern: Be it known that LERNEST FISCHER, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State 5 of New York, have invent-ed certain new and useful Improvements in Display Easels, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in easels and particularly to types in which a pair of photographs or the like may be simultaneously displayed.
One of the objects of the invention is to provide an easel composed of two rigid plates connected integrally -by a flexible member, each plate having a single opening centrally therein, and capable of being folded together.
Another object is to provide a substantially nonbreakable, transparent shield at 20 eachopening through which the photograph may be viewed.
A further object is to provide a base or support by which the easel is held at a desirable angle, this support being hollow and 25 having a chamber in which the folded easel mav be wholly disposed at will.
These and other objects, snc-h as the provision of means to render the hollow base dust-proof, to raise the easel into position for ready removal, and to provide a neat and artistic device for the purpose, are attained by the novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter described and shown in the accompanying drawing, forming a material part of this disclosure, and in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of an embodiment of the invention as erected for dis play.
Figure 2 is a similar view of the same as folded for storage or carriage.
Figure 3 is a transverse sectional view of the same drawn to an enlarged scale.
Figure 4 is a fragmentary sectional view thereof, showing the easel in an extended position.
Figure 5 is a fragmentary face view of the easel in detail.
Referring more in detail to the drawing, the numeral 10 designates the body of the hollow base, the same being made to resemble the appearance of a conventional type of book, and having a leaf or lid 11 engaged at the outer edge by a hinge 12, as a strip of textile fabric.
This lid is provided with a flexible pull 13, and may be held when closed by pivoted buti tons 14 in the lid near the back of a book, is a longitudinal slot 15, provided with aflap or cover 16 to close against the inner side, this flapibeing attached by a flexible hinge 17.
The easel is composed of two'substantially rectangular plates 18 having a ieXible connecting strip 19 acting as a hinge, and each plate contains an opening 2O at the front, here shown as oval, adjacent to which is a transparent plate 21 as celluloid, the same being entered through aslit 22 in the top of the plate, this slit also being receptive of the object to be displayed. y
Each plate contains notches 23 in the bottom edge, their adjacent edges being bevelled and the portion between the notches, including the flexible strip, is adapted to be entered in the slot 15, displacing the flap 16 and to rest upon the inner, lower front corner of the base-to stand at a slight angle Vas best in Figures 1 and 4.
The adjacent edges of the notches 23 are convergingly inclined as they approach the bottom of the plates, to make contact with the ends of the slot 15, thus centering the easel upon its base.
At the back of the easel is a strip-24 constituting a pocketto retain papers or the like, the strip being attached at its end 25 only.
A tape 26 is secured within the hollow base at one end 27, see` Figures 3 and 4, and at the bottom end to the lid at 28, this tape acting to raise the folded easel from the interior of the base automatically upon raising l the lid.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is Y An easel having a chambered base containing an elongated slot contiguous to one of its longer side edges, a lid hinged at the opposite edge, a flap hinged in said base to normally cover the mentioned slot, a support erected on the base to be firmly held thereon, plate composed of two sections flexibly and tianepaiently Covered openings in said united and foldable to enter the chamber in plate receptive of articles to be displayed. 10 said base, said plate having a notched lower In Witness whereof l have atlixed my Sigedge, the portion between the notches being nature.
disposable in the mentioned slot to rest upon the bottom wall of Said velnztrnber when ERNEST FISCHER.
