To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, VVILLIAM F. SCHMIDT, citizen. of the United"Sta tes, residing at IVyandotte, cbunty of IVayne, State of Michigan, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Toy Guns, and declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use 'the same, refer ence being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification. I I

My invention relates to toy guns and objects of my improvements are to provide an apparatus that is efficient, cheap to construct, and assemble, and that affords accessibility, as more specifically pointed out hereinafter. I

I secured this object in the device illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which Figure l is a side View of a toy gun embodying my invention.

My invention enables one to cheaply and readily transform such popgun toan eife'ctive air'rifle, which is readily accessible for the purposes hereinafter pointed out. i

In toy air rifles of this kind, the shot m sometimes becomes lodged in the position shown, so that it cannot be thrown out by the action of the air in front of the piston. By the above construction, the auxiliary barrel 0 may be readily removed and a small rod or ramrod used to dislodge the shot m. I r

In the above construction it is easily accessible for this purpose by removing the auxiliary barrel, as above described, and'oiling the piston through the tubular projection (Z I By the above construction, economy of space in packing for transportation is also secured. The auxiliary barrel 0 may be removed or placed in the box or receptacle 00 beside the rest of thegun, as illustrated in Figure 6, so that a shorter receptacle may be employed.

Instead of forming the thimble d by pressing the same out of a single sheet, it may be constructed as illustrated in Figures 7 to 10 inclusive, in which the shell ha is rolled from a blank (Z00, (Fig. 9), into one edge of which is cut the slot elm, and the opposite edge being cut away, as indicated at aim This sheet is then rolled to a cylindrical form, bringing the two edges, (Z50 and clos together, as shown in'Figure 10. The cutaway portion, doe then forms an entrance passage to the L-shaped slot, and the cutaway portion, d00 forming the laterally extending portion of said slot.

The engaging lug is formed by cutting out a portion of the metal of the cylinder 0 and turning the same radially inward to form the lug This lug enters and en gages in the L slot above described in the usual way.

In an apparatus of the kind described, a main barrel, a fixed partition in said barrel provided with an axially extending tubular portion and an auxiliary barrel adapt ed to be removably secured to said main barrel and form an extension thereof, saidaux iliary barrel having a bore with walls engaging the walls of said tubular portion with a tight joint.

In an apparatus of the kind described, the combination of a main barrel and an auxiliary barrel, a thimble extending into said main barrel and fixedly secured therein so as to have a part projecting therefrom, said auxiliary barrel fitting over and engaging the protruding portion of said thimble to form an extension of said main barrel and to secure said auxiliary barrel in position, said thimble being closed at its inner end except for an aperture therein for the purpose described, said aperture having walls forming a tubular extension, engaging the walls of the bore of said auxiliary barrel.

In an apparatus of the kind described, the combination of a main barrel and an auxiliary barrel, a thimble extending into said main barrel and secured therein so as 'to have a part projecting therefrom, said auxiliary barrel fitting over said thimble to form an extension of said main barrel, said thimble being closed at its inner end except for an aperture therein for the purpose described, said aperture having walls forming a tubular extension, engaging the walls of the bore of said auxiliary barrel and extending into the same. I

7. In apparatus of the kind described, a thimble formed of a circular sheet having the slot (500 in one edge, and the cut-away portion daf in the other edge, the same being shaped to form the L slot and rolled into a cylindrical form. r

8. In combination with the device of claim No. 7, a cylinder 0? cut away and bent inward to form alug ow to engage in the L slot.
