Description
D. HIESTAND.
Bed-Bottoms. NG. 155,947. Patented Oct. 13, 1874.
UNITED STATES PATENT QEEICE.
DAVID HIESTAND, OF VINCENT, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN BED-BOTTOMS.
Specification formirg part of Letters Patent No. 155,947, dated October 13, 1874; applica-tion tiled April 29, 1874.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, DAvID HIEsTAND, of Vincent, in the county of Chester and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Spring Bed-Bottoms; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specilication, in which- Figure lis a plan. Fig. 2 is a plan of a modification, showing punched holes inthe metal strips, in lieu of rings. Fig. 3 is a side elevation or edge view, partly in section, of one of the metal strips applied to the rail.
My invention has for its object to provide a bed-bottom of easy and simple construction, and which will prove very durable and effect ive.
My invention consists in the combination, with an interlaced cord connect-ing the inner ends of flexible metallic strips attached to the bed-frame, of an adjustable platei'or regulating the tension of said cord and strips, as hereinafter more fully described.
Referring to the accompanying drawing, A shows a rectangular wooden frame, having side rails a a, furnished with screws or pegs a and end rails b b, each of which is provided with a single screw, b. C C represent a series of metal strips, or sheet-metal straps, having rings c to fit over the screws a', or their ends may be punched as a substitute for said rings. Ihe inner ends of said metal strips C are bent to form a loop, as shown at c, through which -steads, viz., those in which the rails are provided with pins or pegs, around which a rope 1s passed to form a support for the mattress.
The pins in such said rails will answer for they screws a', and the frame A may be thus dispensed with.
I have shown the metal strips arranged across the bed-frame, or transversely; and though I regard this as the best method, I do not limit myself thereto, for, if desired, the.
said strips may be arranged in the direction of the length of the frame.
What I claim as my inventionA is The combination, with the interlaced cord D, connecting the inner ends of the fiexiblc strips C, of the adjustable plate Dl for regulating the tension of said cord and strips, substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 24th day of April, 1874.
DAVID HIES'IAND.
