To all whom it may concern:-
Be it known that I EMIL Kiicr, a citizen of Switzerland, res1ding at Winterthur, Switzerland, J onasfurrerstrasse 122, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Rotary Com ressors with rescent-Shaped Working pace, of which the following isa specification.
My invention relates to improvements in rotary compressors with crescent-shaped working space between the rotor and the cylinder walls, and consists in means being provided for supplying to the 'workmg space, in addition to the liquid supplied there for lubricating and sealing purposes, a further liquid in adjustable quantities in such a way that the air or gas is compressed to a higher pressure. On the suction side of the compressor .a check valve may be .fitted. This valve closes when the compres- S01 is stopped and prevents the rotorbeing then turned backwards. The liquid can advantageously be supplied under pressure to the working cylinder by means of the delivery pressure in the delivery chamber.
One embodiment of a construction according to this invention is shown by way of example in the drawings, where Fig. 1 is a longitudinal section,

The air or gas coming from the suction chamber is carried over 1n the direction of the arrows by the revolving rotor, compressed from an initial volume/v to a final golume o, and forced into the delivery cham- The machine works in such a way that in addition to the liquid introduced into the working space for lubrication and for rendering it gas-tight, a further quantity of liquid is supplied, which arrives in the deliverychamber' together withthe gas handled, with the result that the presence of this liquid diminishes the available space for the gas, which is consequently compressed to a final volume '0 very much less through the pipe 71 over the bearing 70 to the rotor and over the ends of this back to the suction chamber. In consequence of the difference between the pressures in the delivery chamber and in the suction chamber,
the liquid is automatically forced back into the working space.
By altering the amount of liquid introduced to the working space at any time, the
compression ratio-i. e. the ratio of the delivery pressurep to the initial pressure p, can be ad usted as desired within certain limits. This can be simply eli'ected by suitably adjusting the throttle screws Z fitted in the pipe 5.
In order to prevent any loss of liquid in case the stuffing box m should not be tight, the machine has a catch-disc n fitted on the spindle, on which any liquid that escapes is sent by centrifugal force to the periphery and then passed back to the suction chamber through the pipe 0, the check valve p, and the pipe 9.
The compressor is also fitted with a check valve r in the gas suction pipe. By means of this, when the compressor stops, the backfiow of gas from the delivery chamber makes the pressure in the working space the same as in the delivery chamber, thus stopping the flow of liquid from the delivery chamber to the working space and preventing the latter compression space and a delivery chamber of means for adding to the gas to be compressed before it enters the compression space a quantity of liquid which serves, without the addition offurther liquid, to fill the compression spaces in increasing 5 measure to thereby increase the pressure of the gas delivered by the compressor, and means whereby the deliyery pressure is utilized to force the liquid from said de livery chamber to the place where it is' added to the gas.
