Description
Patented Oct. 20, 1925i.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE. i
SACK HOLDER.
Application filed May 21, 1924. Serial No. 714,930.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, GEAN JONES, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sylvester Township, in the county of Green and State of Wisconsin, have invented a new and use ful Sack Holder, of which the following is a specication.
This invention relatesl to sack holders and the primary object thereof is to provide a device of this character constructed to automatically adjust itself for sacks of various lengths whereby the weight is always at the bottom and the holder thus held against tipping over.
Another object is to so construct such a holder as to keep the slack out of the top of the sack at all times.
lVith the foregoing and other objects in View which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the accompanying drawings:-
Figure 1 represents a front elevation of a sack holder constructed in accordance with this invention; and
Fig. 2 is a side elevation thereof.
In the embodiment illustrated the holder constituting this invention comprises a supporting base shown in the form of a tripod 1 having a sleeve 2 carried by the upper end thereof and opening longitudinally with a set screw 3 extending through said sleeve to adjust-ably secure a slidable rod 4 in -s'aid sleeve. A cap 5 is mounted on the upper end of rod 4 and is equipped with laterally extending diametrically opposite hooks 6, with which are engaged one end of coiled springs 7 and 8. .These springs 7 and 8 are connected at their other ends with hooks 10 carried by a sleeve 9 slidably mounted on the rod 4 and by means of which said sleeve is yieldably supported on the rod.
A bracket 11 is carried by and extends laterally from sleeve 9 and has fixed to its' lower end an annular metal band 19 equipped with a bag supporting hook 13. This band 12 has fixed thereto and rising therefrom a cylindrical filling member or mouth 14 the rear of which is higher than the :front as shown at 15 and is secured to the upper portion of bracket 11.
In the use of this sack holder the parts being in the position shown in the drawing a sack S has its mouth encircling the band 12 and engaged with the hooks 13. The material to be inserted in the sack is then entered through the member 14 and drops into the bottom of the sack so that the weight will be always at the bottom and the holder thus held against tipping over. The coiled springs 7 and S yieldably hold the sack holding member 14 and permit it to move downwardly under the weight of the material in the sack so that said weight will be always positioned near the lower end of the holder.
By adjusting the rod 4 in sleeve 2 the holder may be adjusted for sacks of varying lengths. The yieldable mounting of the holder proper 14 and its automatic adjustment under the action of springs 7 and 8 operates to keepl all slack out of the top of the sack at all times. The holder may be readily assembled and disassembled so that when not in use may be collapsed and packed in comparatively small space.
In ay sack holder, a supporting base, a rod rising from said base, a cap on the upper end of said rod equipped with laterally eX- tending diametrically opposite hooks, a sleeve freely slidable on said rod, a bracket fixed to and extending laterally from said sleeve, an annular band secured to said bracket and equipped with a bag supporting hook, a cylindrical filling member rising from said band with its rear side made higher than its front, and coiled springs connecting said slidable sleeve with the hooks of the cap, whereby the holder is yieldably held supported by said rod.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, vI have hereto aiiixed my signature.
GRAN JONES.
