Description

Oct. 20, 1925- J. A. FITCH TIcKm' HOLDER FOR SHQLVING Filed May 20. 1924 m w w m A Patented 20, 19.25.
UNITED STATES PATENT `OFFICE.
JASON A. FITCH, F YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO, ASSIGNOR TO THE GENERAL FIREPROOFING COMPANY, 0F YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO, A CORPORATION 0F OHIO'.
TICKET HOLDER FOR SHELVING.
Application led May 20, 1924.
To all whom t 71mg/ concern.'
-Be it known that I, JASON A. FITCH, a citizen of the United States, residing at 1428 Logan Ave., Youngstown, in the countv of Mahoningand State of Ohio, have 'invented certain new and useful .Improvements in Ticket Holders for Shelving, of which the following is a specification.
This invention` relates to card 4or ticket holders for metal Shelving, and has primarily in view the provision of a holder which may be readily fitted on the shelf without drilling or otherwise marring or defacing the shelving, and also'without likelhood of mutilating or obscuring any portion of the ticket.
Another object of the invention 1s -to provide a detachable holder that may be located at an convenient point along the front edge o the shelf thereby to be readily removable and transferred to other shelving if desired withoutl in any way impairing its eflicieney, or withoutbending, breaking or otherwise subjecting thesame to unusual force. In that connection, however, it is proposed to provide a device. having novel means for securely mounting the holder in position so that it will not be accidentally displaced or moved 1n the usual course of handling articles placed on the shelf.
A further object of the invention is to provide a `construction which is simple, practical, and economical to manufacture.
With the above and other objects in view wliich will more readily appear as the nature of the invention is better understood the same consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts, hereinafter more fully described, illustrated and claimed.
A preferred and practical embodiment of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawings in which Figure l is a front elevation of a portion of the shelf with the present holder applied thereto. ,v
Figure 2 is a bottom plan view of the construction shown in Figure l.
Figure 3 isa vertical sectional View taken on the line 3--3 of Figure l.
Figure 4 is a perspective view of the ticket holder.
Serial No. 714,612.
Figure 5 is a perspective view of the removable Spring clip.
Similar reference characters 'designate corresponding parts throughout the Several figures of the drawings.
In carrying the invention into effect it is proposed to provide a ticket holder adapted to snugly fit the front edge of the shelf and to be so arranged with reference thereto that it will not offer any obstruction or hindrance vto articles being transferred to and from the shelves, thereby preventing likelihood of accidental removal of the device and at the same time avoiding contact with thearticles being handled.
As will be observed from Figures 1 to 3 inclusive the holder designated in its entirety as H is adapted to be Supported by the face of the flange F of the Shelf S thereby to be readily visible from the front edge of the Shelf, The flange F terminates at its bottom edge in an inwardly and rearwardly extending horizontal flange F which serves bent upwardly as Shown in the drawings to provide a stiifening and clamping lip 5. This lip 5 is preferably located at such a distance from the body 1 as to insure that the body 1 has a snug fit against the face of the flange F. Also, the angle between the body 1 and the flange 4 may be slightly less than the angle between the flange F and the flange F thereby to insure the body of the clamp lying flush against the outer edge of the shelf. l
As will be observed from Figures 2 and 4 the flange 4 is punched out at intervals to provide tongues which are displaced from the plane of the flange 4 downwardly and outwardly toward the front of the body 1 and thence upwardly to provide a plurality of cleats 6 at the front lower edge of the body?, 1 to provide a lower guideway for the ticket. Therefore, the overhanging flange 2 and cleats cooperate to provide a guideway for receiving the ticket or card designated .as '1 in Figure 1.
To further insure the support of'the holder on the shelf the attaching flange 4 may be clamped to the 'horizontal flange F of the shelf b a sprinnr clip 7. This clip preferably inc udes a flat lower portion 8 for engaging beneath the attaching flange 4, and an upper arched portion 9 adapted to pass through an opening 10 in the lip 5 thereby to yieldingly engage` the upper side of the horizontal shelf flange F. Thus, when the spring clip 20 is applied as shown in Figure 3 the attaching ange 4 is securely locked to the shelf flange F and the entire holder is effectively held in position against accidental displacement. Ordinarily the holder may be frictionally held to the shelf by the clamping effect of the lip 5 and the body 1, but the clip 2O positively insures the securing of the holder in place. As will be observed from Figure 1 the location and arrangement of the clip 7 is such that it is located in an out of the way position thereby not only enhancing the appearance of the clamp but at the same time positioning it so that it will not be casually knocked off.
It is believed that the manner of application and the use of the clip will be apparent from the foregoing description and the drawings without further comment. However, it may be pointed out that the body 1 of the holder may be made as long as desired to accommodate cards or tickets of greater or less length, or'in such a case one or more clips 7 may be used without in any way departing from the spirit of the invention or scope of the appended claims.
l claim:
1. A ticket holder adapted for use on metal shelving having a retreating flange, comprising an angular body having an upright and horizontally extending portions, and a spring clip adapted to be applied to the latter portion and the retreating flange of the shelving thereby to sustain the holder in position.
2. A ticket holder adapted for attachment to the front edge of metal shelving comprising uy ticket holding body having a rearwardly extending attaching flange, and a detachable spring clip for locking said flange to the shelf.
3. A ticket holder adapted for use on metal shelving, comprising an angular body having ticket guiding members formed at the opposite edges of its main upright part and 4also provided with a horizontal rearwardly extending attaching flange terminating in an u wardly directed lip having an opening, an a spring clip adapted to be applied to the horizontal rearwardly extending flange at the opening and the part of the shelving with which it abuts by movement toward the front of the shelf.
4. A ticket holder adapted for use in connection with metal shelving having av retreating flange, comprising a member of angular cross-section providing an upright body, an inturned guide flange formed at one edge of the body, a guide forming cleat struck out from the member at the lower edge of the body and cooperating with said flange to form a ticket guideway, and a clip for detachably locking the horizontal part of the holder member to the retreating flange of the shelf.
5. A ticket holder adapted foruse in connection with flanged metal shelving coinprising a member of angular cross section forming a body, and a rearwardly extending attaching flange, ticket guide means formed at opposite edges of the body, and a spring clip of' substantially U-shaped cross section adapted to engage the underside of the attaching flange of the holder and the upper side of' a flange portion of the shelf.
6. A ticket holder adapted for use in connection with metal shelving vcomprising a member of angular section forming a ticket holder, a. body having ticket guide means and a rearwardly extending attaching flange, an offset lip formed at the edge of the attaching flange and provided with cut away portions, and a spring clip adapted to enter said cut away portions of the lip thereby to secure the attaching flange to a portion of the shelf.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my signature.
