BOBBIN CASING FOR LOOMS WITH AUTOMATIC COP-CHANGING MECHANISM.

Be it known that I, EDWIN ScHooH, a citizen'of the Republic of Switzerland, residing at Ruti, in the Canton of Zurich, Republic of Switzerland, have invented cer tain new and useful Improvements in Bobbin Casings for Looms with Automatic Cop- Changing Mechanism, of which the following is a specification.
The use of tubular cops in loom shuttles with automatic cop changing mechanism entails the employment of a bobbin casing, this changing being effected either by the weft fork serving as detector, or else by a finger lever bearing against a weft-bobbin casing. Another known type of weaving shuttle is that in which a smooth, cylindrical bobbin casing without any slots or pro jections, is adapted toslide and be secured, in the requisite longitudinal position, in an extended shuttle aperture. It is also known to mount a tubular cop in a shuttle casing, between a detachable, conical cover and a conical, cupped holder, a. spring mounted in the casing pressing the holder axially against the corer, and a reversible flat spring securing the tubular cop in the shuttle. In this case, a braking action is exerted on the tubular cop by sinuous springs attached to the casing and engaging through slots formed therein.
The object of the present invention is to provide an improved bobbin casing, in which there are no springs to prevent the yarn from dropping off the tubular cop and to exert a braking action on the'latter; and in which a feeling action is exerted on the tubular cop by means of a feeler pin penetrating deeply therein.
Accordingto the invention, this objectis accomplished by pressing on to the tubular cop a sleeve, which is providedat one end with rings or pads for insertion into the shuttle and which is slotted from the other end, the sleeve being held in such position by jaj'detachable clip,-whilst at least one of the slots is widened near the rear end of the sleeve to admit a feeler which is adapted topenetrate into the tubular cop.
One form of the invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings whereof Fig ure 1 is a longitudinal section, Figure 2 is an elevation, whilst Figure 3 is a cross section on the line ax-oa, Figure 1.
1 denotes a sleeve, of metal such as sheet steel, adapted for the insertion thereinto of the tubular cop (not shown), said sleeve consisting of a short cylindrical portion 2, a long cylindrical portion 3 and an intermediate conical portion etconnecting the two cylindrical portions 1 and 2. The short cylindrical portion 2 of the sleeve 1 is mounted securely on a short metal cylinder 5, the periphery of which is grooved for the reception of steel rings 6; or annular pads may be turned on said periphery. By means of these rings or pads, the sleeve 1 can be inserted automatically in the shuttle, held firmly therein and ejected again automatically, as in the case of the Northrop bobbin. The conical portion 4 serves as a stop and bearing surface for the rear end of the tubular cop, whilst in order to prevent the tubular cop from slipping towards the right (Figure 1), the long cylindrical portion 3 of the sleeve 1 is corrugated. This vport-ion and the conical portion 4 of the sleeve are divided, by longitudinal slots 7, into three or more springy tongues, and, when. a tubular cop has been inserted into the sleeve 1, the longitudinal tongues are pressed together radially and firmly against the cop by means of-a clip, the cop being thereby fixed immovably. Preferably the clip is in the form of a cover 10, with an inwardly bent rim 8 and a central hole 9, which cover, is placed over the outwardly bent edges 11 of the tongues, thus holding the latter together firmly in the clamped position. The weft yarn (not shown), unwinding from the interior, passes out through the central hole 9 in the cover 10.
The-rear end of one of the longitudinal slots 7 is widened or enlarged as at 12, and enables a feeler (not shown) to enter and penetrate into the tubular cop, for the purpose of effecting the automatic replacing thereof when the tubular cop has been un wound down to a few turns.
The sleeve 1 and the metal cylinder 5 may be made from a piece of sheet metal, the pads being formed preferably by pressing out the sheet metal.
What I claim is 1. A bobbin casing for tubular cops, for insertion in the shuttles of looms with automatic cop changing mechanism, comprising a sleeve which is provided at one end with rings or pads for insertion into the shuttle and which sleeve is slotted longitudinally from the other end in order to form springy tongues, at least one of the slots being widened. at its rear end for the admission of a feeler, and a detachable clamp being adapted to hold together the said springy tongues.
2. Abobbin casing for tubular cops according to claim 1 in which the sleeve is corrugated to ensure a firmer grip on the tubular cop.
3. A bobbin casing for tubular cops, for insertion in the shuttles of looms with automatic cop changing mechanism, comprising a sleeve which is provided at one end with rings or pads for insertion into the shuttle and which sleeve is slotted longltudinally from th other end in order to form springy tongues, the said tongues having outwardly bent edges, at least one of the slots being widened at itsrear end for the admission of a feeler, a detachable clamp being in the form of a cover for the sleeve and having an inwardly bent rim adapted to engage the bent edges of the-tongues in order to hold the latter together firmly in the clamped position.
4-. A bobbin casing for tubular cops, for insertion in the shuttles of looms with automatic cop changing mechanism, comprising a sleeve and a metal cylinder, the sleeve being at one end mounted securely on the cylinder, the periphery of the latter being grooved for the reception of steel rings or having annular pads for insertion into the shuttle, the said sleeve being slotted longitudinally from the other end in order to form springy tongues, at least one of the slots being widened at its rear end for the admission of a feeler, and a detachable clamp being adapted to hold together the said springy tongues.
5. A bobbin casing for tubular cops, for insertion in the shuttles of looms with automatic cop changing mechanism, comprising a sleeve and a metal cylinder, the sleeve being at one end mounted securely on the cylinder, the periphery of the latter being grooved for the reception of steel rings or having annular pads for insertion into the shuttle, the said sleeve being slotted longitudinally from the other end in order to form springy tongues, the said tongues having outwardly bent edges, at least one of the slots being widened at its rear end for the admission of a feeler, a detachable clamp being in the form of a cover for the sleeve and having an inwardly bent rim adapted to engage the bent edges of the tongues in order to hold the latter together firmly in the clamped position.
6. A bobbin casing for-tubular cops, for insertion in the shuttles of looms with automatic cop changing mechanism, comprising a sleeve, which consists of a short cylindrical portion, a long cylindrical portion and an intermediate conical portion connecting the two cylindrical portions, a metal cylinder on which the short cylindrical portion of the sleeve is mounted securely, the periphery of the metal cylinder being grooved for the reception or steel rings or having annular pads for insertion into the shuttle, the said sleeve being slotted longitudinally from the other end in order to form springy tongues, at least one of the slots being widened at its rear end for the admission of a feeler, and a detachable clamp being adapted to hold together the said springy tongues.
7. A bobbin casing for tubular cop's, for insertion in the shuttles of looms with automatic cop changing mechanism, comprising a. sleeve, which consists of a short cylindrical portion, a long cylindrical portion and an intermediate conical portion connecting the two cylindrical portions,- a metal cylinder on which the short cylindrical portion of the sleeve is mounted securely, the periphery of the metal cylinder being grooved for the reception of steel rings or having annular pads for insertion into the shuttle, the said sleeve being slotted longitudinally from the other end in order to form springy tongues. the said tongues having outwardly bent edges, at least one of the slots beng widened at its rear end for the admission of a feeler, a detachable clamp being in the form of a cover for the sleeve and having an inwardly bent rim adapted to engage the bent edges of the tongues in order to hold the latter together firmly in the clamped position.
8. A bobbin casing for tubular cops according to claim 1, in which the detachable clamp has the form of a cover for the sleeve, which cover has a central hole for the purpose that the weft yarn, unwinding from the interior, can pass out through the said central hole in the cover.
