IMPROVEMENT "\l SELF-ACTING SPlNNlNG-MULES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 155.804. dated October 13, 1874; application filed May 12, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, CHARLES MoOnEERY and WILLIAM ORIGHTON', of Fall River, in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in'Gop-Builders or Nosing Mo tion for Spinning-Machin es; and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification.
Our invention relates to a novel mechanism employed for the purpose of regulating the building of cops upon the spindles of spinning-mules, and known as a nosing motion.
In the drawings, Figure l is a view, in elevation, of our improvement. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same. Our invention consists in certain combinations and arrangements of devices and appliances, as hereinafter set forth and claimed, wherein D is the under faller-shaft; O, the upper or building faller. Attached to the upper or building-faller shaft is a pin or stud, H, that plays in a slot in an adjusting-plate, P. F is the quadrant-arm, bearing the depressing-lever E, provided with the nosing-peg S, that depresses the winding-on chain. I is a frame, attached to the quadrant-arm F, and bearing a screw, It, upon which runs the nut N. At the lower end of the screw is a ratchet, B, which is operated by the pawl A upon one end of the arm L, which in turn is actuated by the pin H. K is a connecting-bar, joining the lever E with the nut N. It is connected with the lever E by a slot-connection, Q, whereby the length of the short arm of the lever E may be adjusted.
The operation of this device is as follows: The faller O is the governing motion, working in this manner. In starting the machine to begin the bottom of the cop, the pin H in the faller-shaft 0 comes in contact with the adj usting-plate P, and raises the spring-arm L above the ratchet-wheel B until the bottom of the cop is finished. Then it is ready to commence its work of moving the depressing-lever down on the winding-on chain by the spring-lever dropping slowly down, bringing the pawl A in contact with the teeth of the ratchet B, operating the screw B, and through it the' nut N, arm K, and lover E.
The advantages and objects of constructing and arranging the diiferent parts'above described is to obtain a positive and direct I and carrying the screw R, adjustable arm K, ratchet B, and nut N, so that the ratchet B, and through its connections the depressing-lever E, are operated directly from and by the building-faller shaft, substantially as described. I
3. The combination of the slotted depressing-lever E, spring-lever A L, buildingfaller 0, provided with the pin H, adjusting-plate P, screw R, ratchet B, nut N, and bar K, all constructed, arranged, and operating as described, whereby movement is imparted to the depressing-lever and winding-on chain from the buildin g-faller.
