what'I claim as newand desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is;
l. A recoil devicegfor` a Vgun stoclrwhich` consists of -a gaiter including a resilient cushion'ofl substantially uniform thickness corresponding generally inshape to the rear end of `a gun stock, a gaiter-back cemented to the rear face of said-cushion and provided at its lower end with a tongue, a gaiter-side adapted to extend around the gun stock and having its'rear margin overlying and cemented to the edge offsaid cushion, tongues extending from the rear ends ofthe proximal edgesof said gaiterside, said last mentioned tongues being turned toward eachother under the cushion, said firsti mentioned tongue being turned forwardly under the cushion, means securing the several tongues together, the `material at each of the proximal edges of said gaiter-side being turnedinw-ardly and back upon itself,`a-plurality of eyelets' carried by each Vof the proximal vvedges'of the ,gaiterside, a lace co-operatingwith the eyelets to hold the gaiter onV a gunstock, and ya relatively wide Hap havingV one ofitsmargins held under one of Vthe turned back portions of the gaiter-side, said flap being adapted to bridge the gap betweenthe proximal edges of the gaiter-side and to underlie thelace and the several eyelets. 2. A recoil-device Vfor-a gun stock comprising a resilientV cushion and a@ gaiter wherein the cushion is mounted, said gaiter comprising aside member cemented to the cushion adapted-to pass around a gun'stock,
Vthe material at each of the proximal 'edges of said gaiter-side,y being turned inwardly and back uponV itself, a plurality of eyelets extending through the gaiter-side near each .of the proximal edges, a lace co-operating with said. eyelets to hold the gaiterl and ',cushion on the stock, anda relatively wide flap having one of its edges held under one of the turned back` portions of the gaiter-side, said flap being adapted to bridge the gap between the proximal edges ofthe Agaiter-side andL to underlie the lace and the several eyelets;
@LA recoil device for a gun stock com-V A prismg a resilient Acushion and a gaiter wherein the cushion is carried, said gaiter comprismg'a side member adapted to extend around the gun stocka-nd having the mate-- rial at one of itsl proximal edges turned inwardlyv and backwardly upon itself, a pluralityv of eyelets extending through; the gaiter-side near each of its proximal edges, a lace co-operatingwith said eyeletsto hold the gaiter in position, and a iexible Hap having one of its edges held under the said turned back portion of the gaiter-side, said flap being adapted to bridge the space between the proximal edgesof the gaiter-side and to underlie the lace and the several eyelets.
4. A recoil Vdevice for gun stocks comprising a resilient cushion, a 'gaiter-,back cemented to the rear face of said cushion, a gaiter-side adapted to v lie `around a gun stock and having itsV rear margin cemented to the edge of Vsaid cushionfalforwardl turned tonguecarried by said gaiterf'bac at its 'lower portion, tongues ,carriedV by the rear portions of the proximal edgesl of 'said gaiter-side, said tongues -being superposed and secured each/to the others, eyelets oarried by the gaiter-side-adjacent to its proximal edges, a lace co-operating with-said eyelets to draw the proximal edges ofthe gaiter-side toward each other, and a flap carried by the gaiter-side adapted to bridge the space between the proximal edges of the gaiter-side and to underlie the lace.
In Witness whereof, I hereunto subscribe by name thisllth day of June, 1925.
