Description

I Oct. 13, 1925. 1,556,946
o. LU ND BRAD Fild June 27, 1924 mama Patented Oct. 13, 1925.
OSCAR LUND, or BEVERLY, KANSAS.
BRAD.
Application filed June 27, 1924. Serial No. 722,816.
To all 10h am it may concern Be it known that I, OSCAR LUND, a citizen of the United States, residing at Beverly, in the county of Lincoln and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Brads, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to a brad designed particularly for holding a window pane in a window sash.
The invention aims to provide a device of this nature having a very simple and eflicient construction, one which is reliable, inexpensive to manufacture, strong, durable, and well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed.
An important object of the invention is to provide a brad of this nature which may. be inserted into the sash without injury to the hand or any danger of breaking the window pane.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a brad of this nature about which the putty or like material may be easily placed and built up, said putty or like material being so engaged with the brad so that the latter will aid in holding it in place after it has set and hardened.
l Vith the above and numerous other objects in view as will appear as the description progresses, the invention resides in certain novel features of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the drawing:
The figure is a perspective view of the brad.
The brad consists of a triangular shaped base plate 5, and a triangular shaped back plate 7 The free apex of the back plate 7 is slightly bent or offset so as to extend in substantially the same plane with the base be inserted into the sash thus retaining the back plate 7 in its acute angle relative to the base plate 5.
In actual practice when the desired number of brads have been engaged with a sash, the putty or lik material is molded in place in the usual manner with a putty knife or like instrument, and it will be noted that some of the putty or like material will be forced between the base 5 and the bottom edge or inner faces of the back plate 7 and offset apex 13. In this way, when the putty becomes set or hardened, the brad will be effectively held in place. The slanting feature of the back plate 7 in relation to the base 5 will also aid in properly shaping the putty so as to form a bevelled surface between the pane of glass and the sash, as is a common practice.
It is further evident that changes in details, construction, material and arrange ment of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention, as hereinafter claimed, or sacrific ing any of its advantages.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is:
A brad of the class described including a triangular shaped base plate and a triangular shaped back plate formed on one edge thereof to be extended therefrom at an acute angle and terminating in an offset apex in a plane substantially parallel to the base plate.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
OSCAR LUND.
