PATENT OFFICE.
OTTO I. ROBERTS, OF HAYDEN JUNCTION, ARIZONA.
HEEL-GUARD.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 8, 1921.
Application filed November 22, 1919. Serial No. 889,940.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, O'rro M. ROBERTS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hayden Junction, in the county of Final and State of Arizona, have invented new and useful Improvements in Heel-Guards, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to heel guards or protectors and has for its object to provide a plate-like part adagted to be inserted into the shoe structure a ove the heel pile and between or upon the insole or top of the heel so as to prevent injury to the heel of the wearer because of upwardly projecting nails, and the invention consists of the construction embodiments of which are shown in the accompanying drawings and described and claimed herein.
Figure l is a plan view of the heel guard.
Fig. 2 is a transverse section showing the device mounted in a shoe.
Fig. 3 is a transverse section of a modified form of the guard.
The heel guard, a form of which is indicated at 2, may be made of any suitable material as metal or other hard substance that will prevent the upwardly projecting nails N usually employed in the erection of the heel H from penetrating the skin of the heel of the wearer of a shoe, a portion of which is indicated at S.
The heel guard or protector will obviously be made of different sizes and shapes and is latter can adapted to be inserted beneath the insole I or over the top of the same as may be desired.
To prevent nails at the edges of the heel from passing beyond and around the edge of the guard 2, the latter may be provided with a downturned marginal flange 3, Fig. 2, or the guard 2 may be provided in its anger marginal surface with a groove as at E The guard may be maintained in position as by cementing or by the use of small nails or screws 5 passed through holes 4 therein. If the guard is placed beneath an insole the be lifted to permit the insertion of the guard and then it can be cemented or glued down on the inserted heel guard.
Various changes may be made without departing from the spirit of my invention as claimed.
I claim:
A device for protecting the heel of the wearer of a shoe against penetration by the heel nails, including a hard thin plate insertible into the shoe to lie over the heel above the adjacent nail points, said plate being provided in its under marginal surface with a groove forming a flange to prevent nails from passing upwardly around the marginal edge of said plate.
In testimony whereof I have name to this specification.
OTTO M. ROBERTS.
