,SYRINGE NOZZLE.
Application filed April 23, 1925. Serial No.25,381.
To all whom it may-concern:
Be it known that I, EUGENE B. SIMPSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Gray Court, in the county of Laurens and State of South Carolina, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Syringe Nozzles, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to certain improvements in syringe nozzles and has relation more particularly to a device of this general character especially designed and adapted for use in connection with fountain syringes, and it is an object of the invention to provide a nozzle of this kind particularly adapted for use in connection with external orifices of the human body and which is employed with advantage without the necessity of insertion.
The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts of my improved syringe nozzle whereby certain important advantages are attained and the device rendered simpler, less expensive and otherwise more convenient and advantageous for use, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
The novel features of my invention will hereinafter be definitely claimed.
In order that'my invention may be the better understood, I will now proceed to describe the same with reference to the ac companying drawings, wherein Figure l is a view in side elevation illustrating a nozzle constructed in accordance with an embodiment of my invention and in a position for use, a coacting stool being diagrammatically indicated by broken lines;
Figure 2 is a longitudinal sectional view taken through a nozzle constructed in accordance with an embodiment of my invention;
Figure 3 is a view in top plan of the device as illustrated in Figure 2;
Figure 4 is a sectional view taken substantially on the line 44: of Figure 2.
As disclosed in the accompanying drawings, my improved nozzle comprises an elongated tubular member 1 provided at one end with an outstanding nipple 2 to provide means whereby the tube 3 of a fountain syringe or the like may be readily coupled thereto.
The oppositeen'dportion of the member 1 is provided with a laterally directed elongated head 4 the outer or contacting face of which being relatively narrow with its major axis disposed in a direction lengthwise of the elongated member 1 and the outer or contacting face being disposed longitudinally on a desired curvature. The working face of the head 4: is provided therealong with an elongated trough 5, the bore 6 of the member 1 communicating with said trough at substantially the longitudinal center, the portion 6' of the bore within the head 4 being disposed on a requisite curvature. I
The member 1 at a desired point intermediate it's ends is provided with the oppositely directed outstanding wings or plates 7 disposed substantially at right angles to the direction in which the head 4 is disposed. These flanges or plates 7 are adapted, when the nozzle is in use, to contact with the edge of a stool or other support whereby the member 1 is held against turning movement and thereby assuring the head 4 being maintained in its effective working position.
In practice, the head 4 is brought into close contact with the body substantially surrounding the external orifice to be treated and the force of the fluid passing through the member 1 will be sufficient to effect the desired result with the additional advantage of effecting a gentle massaging action upon the outer muscles surrounding such orifice as the fluid finds entrance therein or thereby bringing into life and action any paralyzed or partly dead muscles and helping such muscles to function properly.
With the use of a nozzle constructed in accordance with an embodiment of my invention, it is also assured that only the amount of fluid necessary will enter the orilice and no pockets or cavities will be formed as often occurs with the use of the insertion type of nozzles now generally employed.
From the foregoing description it is thought to be obvious that a syringe nozzle constructed in accordance with my invention is particularly well adapted for use by reason of the convenience and facility with which it may be assembled and operated, and it will also be obvious that my invention is susceptible of some change and modi fication without departing from the principles and spirit thereof and for this reason I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the precise arrangement and formation of the several parts herein shown in carrying out my invention in practice except as hereinafter claimed.
I claim As a new article of manufacture, a syringe.
nozzle comprising an elongated tubular- 10 member provided with a laterally disposed head, the outer face of said head being provided with a trough, the bore of the elongated memher communicating with said trough, said head being relatively narrow with its major axis extending in a direction lengthwise of the elongated member.
In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my signature.
EUGENE B. SIMPSON.
