BRAssIERE.

Application filed May 12, 1924.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, LULA BACON, a citizen of the United States, rtsiding at Belton, in the county of Bell and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improve ments in a Brassi-ere, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to new and useful improvements in wearing apparel and is more particularly adapted to a brassiere wherein means is provided for supporting the same on the body of the wearer thus obviating the necessity of having to employ the usual straps.

One of the important objects of the present invention is to provide a brassi-ere of the above mentioned character wherein the same may be adjusted in order to properly sup port the same in position on the body of the wearer.

A still further object of the invention is to provide a brassiere of the above men tioned character, wherein the adjusting means is so arranged as not to cause discomfort to the wearer and is furthermore invisible.

A further object of the invention is to provide a brassiere of the above mentioned character, which is simple in construction, inexpensive, durable and furthermore adapted for the purposes for which it is designated.

Other objects and advantages of this invention will become apparent during the course of the following description.

In the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification and in which like numerals designate like parts throughout the same:

Figure 1 is a front elevation of my improved brassiere, and

Figure 2 is an elevational View of the rear portion of the brassi-ere showing the inside thereof.

In the drawing wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown the preferred embodiment of my invintion, the numeral 1 designates generally my brassiere and the same comprises the elongated body portion 2, the free ends of which are provided with the usual hook and eye fastening means such as is shown at 3. body portion to the lower edge thereof in the manner clearly illustrated in Figure 2.

Itus of course understood that the elastic port ons f and 5 constitute inserts and the portions of the body where the inserts are arranged must be cut away in order to accommodate the elastic portions. The elastic portions are furthermore arranged in the back portion of the brassiere and the purpose thereof is obvious from the construction shown.

Ordinarily the brassires now on the market are provided with the shoulder straps and the person wearing a brassiere of this type usually experiences difliculty in keepmg the shoulder straps in proper position. In order to maintain the shoulder straps in proper position, lingerie clasps are usuallv entrployed in the manner well known in the ar To obviate the necessity of the shoulder straps and the lingerie clasps usually us:d 1n connection therewith I have provided a means in connection with the brassiere for properly supporting the same on the body of the wearer without causing any discomfort to the person. The supporting means 1n the present invention comprises the provision of a plurality of spaced eyes such as shown at 6 on the

4 and 5 respectively adjacent the upper edges thereof and the purpose of this construction will be presently apparent.

Arranged on the inner side of the brassiere adjacent the upper edge thereof are the pockets 7, 8 and 9 respectively. The pocket 7 extends from one edge of the elastic portion 4 to the adjacent edge of the elastic portion 5 and provides what I term as a central pocket. The pocket 8 extends from the opposite side edge of the elastic portion 4 to the adjacent free end of the body portion while the pocket 9 extends from the other free end of the body portion to the adjacent side edge of the elastic portion 5 in the manner clearly illustrated in Figure 2 of the drawing. The pockets are open at their respective ends and are preferably fastened to the upper inner portion of the brassiere by stitching such as shown at 10.

A brassiere of this character-will present a neat appearance as the adjusting means is arranged on the insideofthe brassiere and is invisible. If desired, trimming such as is shown at 18 may bestitchedto the upper edge of the brassiere inthe 'manner well known in the art. A brassiere of this construction may be manufactured at a very low cost and further may be used for an 111- delinite period.

While I have shown the preferred embodiment of my invention, it is to be understood that various changes in the size, shape and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the inventionand the scoperof the appended claim.
