Patented Sep-t.29,1874.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE..
PETER L. LAMBERT, 0F BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
IMPRQVEMENT IN FQOT-RESTS FOR CHAIRS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 155,524, dated September 29, 1874 application filed May 6, 1874.
To all 'whom it may concern Beit known that I, PETER L. LAMBERT, of Boston, in the county of Suffolk andState of Massachusetts, have invented certain Improvements in Easy-Chairs for Smokers, Students, 8vo., of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making part of this specification, in which- Figure l is a vertical section, showing my invention. Fig. 2 is a transverse section on the line ac a' of Fig. l.
My invention consist-s in an easy-chair provided with a foot-rest having lugs arranged to slide in grooves within the frame of the seat, the rest being drawn out to support the feet, and returned, when not required for use, in a ready and convenient manner.
To enable others skilled in the art to understand and use my invention, I willproceed to describe the manner in which I have carried it out. y
In the said drawings, A is the back, B B the arm-rests, and C the seat, of an uphol stered easychair. The front a of the frame D of the seat is provided with a longitudinal slot, b, for the reception of a sliding piece, E, to the front of which is secured a strip, c, provided with a knob or handle, d, by which the piece E may be readily drawn out when it is desired to employ it as a rest for the feet of the occupant of the chair. The rearof the piece or foot-rest is provided with a metallic cross-bar', G, the ends of which project out beyond the sides of the rest and enter grooves e Within the inner surfaces of a pair of parallel cross-pieces, h, extending between the front and b'ack of the frame, each groove being inclined down from front to rear, (see Fig. 2,) to facilitate the sliding of the foot-rest into its place under the seat G, the rest, when drawn out ready for use, being inclined downward and outward from .the front.
A foot-rest constructed in accordance'with ,my invention may be applied to an easy-chair
