' UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE R. BANKS, OF HIGH BRIDGE, NEW JERSEY, AND Ali-FRED R. BENCH, .01 EASTON,- PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNORS TO TAYLO'R-WHARTON IRON AND STEEL COMPANY, OF HIGH BRIDGE, NEW JERSEY, ACORIOEA'I'ION OF NEW JERSEY.
'rnac'ron Y Lnnr.
Application filed September 17, 1920. Serial' No. 410,945.
To all whom-it may concern:
Be it known that we, GEORGE E. HANKs and ALrR-nn R. BENCH, citizens of the United vStates, residing, respectively, at High Bridge, in county of Hunterdon and State of New Jersey, andat Easton, in the county of Northampton and State of Pennsylvania,
have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tractor Links, of which the following is a specification.
The object is to reduce the cost of manu- 7 faeture and to increase the production of such links as compared with those of a similar type as now constructed. 4 Tractor links of the type contemplated by this invention have been heretofore formed with T sections, which construction necessitated the use of inside and outside cores. When so cast, the use of cores as noted rendered the casting liable to tears and checks in shrinking and cooling.
According to the present invention the link is provided with hearing members of box form as distinguished from the T form,
the box form being readily cast at materially less cost and eliminating the cores above referred to. p
The improved link is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Fig. 1 is a plan of the improved link.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same.
Fig. 3 is a section on line 33 of Fig. 1.
The link is cast as a unit to include the plate 1 and the bearing elements 2 and 3 of identical hollow or box construction.
The bearing elements are formed with the set from the outer edge and in line with the Inner edge of the body portions, thus following the usual construction and providing for the interfitting and pivotal connection of the links. The end elements 5 are formed with the usual pivot pin opening 7, and the end elements 6 are integral with an intermediate bearing portion 8, through which and the end elements 6 is formed an opening 9 to receive the pivot pin when the links are assembled. I
The box or bearing members 2 and 3 are provided with internal webs or brace ribs 10, and with'additional webs or brace ribs 11 extending from their outer walls to the plate.
The webs or ribs 11 are preferably in pairs, between which the plate is thickened as at 12 for the formation of connecting openings 13..
The plate 1 may be provided with the.
usual transverse ribs 14 and may be other- .wise of the usual construction.
bearing members of hollow formation rising from the base plate, bracing elements exteriorly of the wallsot' the bearing members and base plate and bracing members within the hollow bearing members and between the walls thereof, all bracing members being substantially in line transversely of the base plate.
In testimony whereof we aflix our signatures. I
GEORGE R. .HANKS. ALFRED R. BENCH.
