WILLIAM O. DONNELL, OF PITTSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN lRONlNG-TABLES.
- Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 155,432, dated September 29, 1874; application filed July 3, 1874.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, WILLIAM O. DONNELL, of Pittsburg, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Ironing-Board, of which the following is a specification:
Figure l is a side view of my improved ironing-board, parts being broken away to show the construction. Fig. 2 is a front view of the support to be attached to the wall. Fig. 3 is a detail view of the inner end of the board.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The invention is an improvement in the class of ironing-boards adapted to be attached to a vertical wall and supported in a horizontal position by means of a hinged brace.
The improvement relates to the construction and combination of parts, as hereinafter described and claimed.
A is the board, which is made of a convenient shape and size. To the inner end of the board A are attached, by means of a metallic plate or casting, two hooks, B, which enter two slots in the forward side of the block or casting O, which is secured to the wall in such a position as to support the board A at a suit.- able height. Upon the upper edge of the forward side of the block C is formed a narrow forward-projecting flange, c, beneath which the upper edge of the forward end of the board A rests when in use, and which prevents, or tends to prevent, the outer end of the board from rising. To the lower side of the inner end of the board A is hinged the end of an arm or bar, I), in such a way that the upper end of the said bar may fit in beneath and rest against the lower side of the block O, as shown in Fig. 1, to hold the end of the board A down and prevent the hooks B from rising in the slots of the block 0. To the lower end of the bar or arm D is hinged the end of a longer bar or arm, E, the free end of which when turned up enters a notch in the inner edge of a cleat, a, secured to the lower side of the outer part of the board A, pressing the bar D firmly against the wall and securely supporting the outer part of the board A when 1n use.
To detach the board the free end of the bar E is detached from the cleat a, and the bars D E folded up along the under side of the board A, which allows the outer end of the board A to be lowered and the hooks B slipped out of the slots of the block 0.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination, with the slotted block (J c, fixed to the wall, of the board A, having hooks B, the bar D, and brace E, said bar being hinged, as specified, to adapt it to 00-01)- erate in forming and maintaining the attachment of the board to the block, as illustrated and set forth.
WILLIAM O. DONNELL. Witnesses:
