The frame member in the construction herein shown by way of example has a body portion a and two side arms I) and also an intermediate arm a all projecting from portion a and spaced from each other, so that the frame member is bifurcated or forked. The tongue member is assembled with the frame member so that the arm 0 of the latter is received by the crotch e of the former and thearms Z) of the latterextend outwardly of the projections d of the former. The axis of pivotal movement of the ton ue member on the frame member is afforded in the present instance by a pin gwhich penetrates the parts I) d e and 0.
Preferably as viewed in side elevation the tongue member is arched, and in any case its arms 7 are of such length that when the tongue member is fully depressed their extremities will be received between the arms I) and 0 of the frame member.
To hold the tongue member in the operative position there is a locking member. This consists of an elongated plate It having its end portions h bent off in the same direction at right angles to form pivoting projections and having a lateral extension 72 extending at right angles from the plate. This locking member is arranged with respect to the frame member so as to receive between its projections h the end portion of the frame member having the body part a, so that said projections flank the arms I) of the frame member; by rivets 2' the projections 71/ may be pivoted to said arms I). The plate It as viewed edgewise (Fig. 5) has a slight inward curvature so that when it is shifted on its pivot in either direction it wipes against the body portion a of the frame member and requires to be sprung or distorted in order to complete the movement; thus the locking member is retained at either of its limits of movement.
In use the tongue member is introduced endwise into the hair so as to leave a lock of the hair extending over it, whereupon the frame member is forced downward so as to receive the tongue member (Fig. 2) thus placing the hair in a waved formation, and finally the locking member is shifted to the posi tion of Figs. 2, a, and 5 to hold the two parts in place. Tlf'e device is easily removed by swinging the locking member to the full-line position in Fig. 3 thus releasing the frame member, which may now be raised to release the waved lock of hair.
Having thus fully described my invention what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A hair waver including a frame member formed of strip material bent to form three spaced rigidly related arms projecting in the same direction, and a tongue member formed of strip material bent to form two spaced rigidly related-arms projecting in the same direction, said tongue member being pivoted to the end portions of the arms of the frame member.
2. A-hair waver including a frame member formed of strip material bent to form three spaced rigidly related arms projecting in the same direction, and a tongue member formed of strip material bent to form two spaced rigidly related arms projecting in the same direction and a crotch between the latter arms, said tongue member being pivoted to the end portions of the arms of the frame member and receiving in its crotch the end portion of the intermediate one of the latter arms.
3. A hair waver including, with a frame member having a body portion at one end and spaced arms rigidly projecting therefrom in the same direction and a tongue member pivoted-between and to the end portions of said arms on an axis connecting them, a locking member having spaced projections, pivoted to the body portion end of the frame member on an axis parallel with the first axis and movable on its pivot into and out of locking engagement with the free end portion of the tongue member when the latter is in clamping relation to the frame member, said looking member when pivotally moved being arranged to wipe at a point thereof between its said projections against and be thereby sprung by said end of the frame member.
