Be it known that I, THOMAS F. REID, a subjectof the King of Great Britain, and a resident of the city of` Vancouver, in the Province of British Columbia, Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improveniente in Boilers, of which the followingis a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in boilers, with more particular reference to those used in hot waterheating systems, although my improvements may be applied yto steam boilers also,and the object of my invention is to provide aboiler .ofj extremely simple and strongconstruction in which the water heating is quickly effected and main* tained withgreat economy and ease so that the, entire system may be operated at a low cost and withv great efficiency with the minimum of attention and labour.

shown in Fig. 2, and it is providedA on its upper side with a large T member 37 fitted with water outlet connections, indicated by the numeral 38, and with a safety valve 39. `40 indicates a pipe connection between the rear end of the water chamber 33 and `the .water jacket 25a, while 4lvindicates a pipe connection ybetween the water` jacket .and the pipe 10. The entire construction described in the foregoing, with the exception of the T member 37, is enclosed by a sheet metal covering 42 over a layer of asbestos 43, as shown in Fig.l 5.
In operation the flame, hot gases, and smoke pass from the fireboX rearwardly into the combustion chamber .20, forwardly through the smoke tubes 2b into the smoke boX 2Q, and then rearwardly again through the flueV B3 into the space 34 and out into the chimney `9, from which it will be seen that the entire ywater body, as contained in the pipes 10 and 11, pipes 27-2S and 29-30, coils 31 and 32, and the waterchambers 19, 95h, and 33, and which is relatively small as compared with the 'amount of heating surface, is Asubjected to the most intense heat so that the water is quickly 'heated and maintained at a high temperature with the minimum expenditure of labour and fuel.

Y yFrom the foregoing it` willvbe seen that I have Vdevised a simple and strongly constructed boiler capable of being .used for heating purposes with greatfacility and -eflicieney and operated and maintained at a low kfuel and labour cost. l p
Vhat I claim as my invention is :f-
1. A 'boiler comprising front, rear, and side platesA enclosing a iurn'ace, a pair'of pipes extending longitudinally on each side of the yfurnace adjacent the outer and 'lower' vedges of the' front and rear plates and protheir front ends ends elbowed, a cylindrical vwater chamber intermediate the height of said front `and rear plates shorter than the distance between them whereby a smoke boX and formed at the front and rear ends respectively of said water chamber, plates forming the bottom and top vof the said smoke and combustion ,chamber respectively, smoke Vtubes extending i through: the said water chamber connecting the combustion chamber' with the smoke box, lan upper cylindrical water chamber disposed above jecting through the same the intermediate one abutting the front plate at its front end and spaced from the rear plate at its rear end 'provided with tubu- -lar connections on its lower side connecting it withthe intermediate water chamber and on yits upper side with a T member having outa combustion chamber areV ber,

2. A boiler comprising front, rear, and side plates enclosing a furnace, a pair o pipes extending longitudinally on each side of the furnace adjacent the outer and lower edges of the fiont and rear plates and projecting through the same their front ends being capped and their rear ends being elbowed, a cylindrical water' chamber intermediate thelieight of said front and rear plates shorter than the distance between them whereby a smoke boxvand a coinbustion chamber are formed at the front and rear ends respectively of said water chamber, plates forming the bottom and top of said smoke box and combustion chamber respectively, smoke tubes extending through said water chamber connecting the combustion chamber with the smoke box, an upper cylindrical water chamber disposed above the intermediate one abutting its front end and spaced from the rear plate at its reareiid provided with tubular connections on its .lower side connecting it with the intermediate chamber and on its upper side with a T member havingoutlets, and a pair of spaced tubularV connections between the front plate at each of the aforesaid longitudinal pipes and theintermediate water chamber, the memof the furnace adjacent the outer rand lower edges of the front and rear plates and projecting through the same their front ends being capped and their rear ends elbowed, cylindrical water chamber intermediate the yheight of said front and rear plates shorter than the distance between them whereby a smoke box anda combustion chamber are formed at the front. and rear ends respectively of the said water chamber, a plate forming the bottom of the smoke box betweenthe front plate and the front end of the waterV chamber, a plate forming the top plate and the rear end of the vwater chamber on which is superposed another plate, both platesenclosing aspace adapted to form a water-j acketed top for the combustion chamsmoke tubes extending through the water chamber connecting the combustion chamber with the smoke box,an upper cylindrical 'water chamber *disposed above the Lof the combustion chamber between the rear 115 intermediate one abutting the front plate at its front end and Yspaced from the rear plate at its rear end provided with tubular connections on its'lower -side connecting it with the intermediate upper .side with a T 'member having outlets, a pair of spaced tubular connections between water chamber and on its each of the aforesaid longitudinal pipes and the intermediate water chamber, the mem-4 bers of each pair being connected by a pipe coil, and a pipe connection connecting the combustion chamber water-jacket top with the upper water chamber and one of said longitudinal pipes.
4. A boiler comprising front7 rear, and side plates enclosing a furnace, a pair of pipes extending longitudinally on each side of the furnace adjacent. the outerand lower edges of the front and rear plates and projecting through the same their front ends being capped and their rear ends elbowed, a cylindrical water chamber intermediate the height of the front and rear plates shorter than the distance between them whereby a smoke box and a combustion chamber are formed at the front and rear ends respectively of said Water chamber, a plate forming the bottom of the smoke boX between the front plate and the front end of the said water chamber, a plate forming the top of the combustion chamber between the rear plate and the rear end of the water chamber on which is superposed another plate,both plates enclosing a space adapted to form a waterjacketed top for the combustion chamber, smoke tubes extending through the water chamber' connecting the combustion chamber with the smoke box, an 'upper cylindrical water chamber disposed above the intermediate one abutting the front plate at its front end and spaced from the rear plate at its rear end provided with tubular connections o n its lower side connecting it with the intermediate water chamber and on its upper side with a T member having outlets, a pair of spaced tubular connections between each of the aforesaid longitudinal pipes and the intermediate water chamber, the members of each pair being connected by a vertically arranged pipe coil, a horizontally arranged pipe coil between and in connection with the said spaced tubular connections disposed intermediate the longitudinal pipes and the intermediate water chamber, and a pipe connection connecting the combustion chamber water-jacket top with the upper water ychamber and one of the said lonoitudinal pi es.
