H. V. HODGES LIGHT ATTACHMENT FOR CLIPPERS Filed Jan. 24. 1924 Patented Sept. 15, 1925.
PATENT OFFICE.
HERMAN V. HODG-ES, 0F S=AN GABRIEL, CALIFORNIA. i
LIGHT ATTACHMENT FOR CLIPPER-S.-
Application filed January 1924 Serial No. 688,123
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HERMAN V. Honens, a citizen of the United States, residing at San Gabriel, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Light Attachments for Clippers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to light attachments for clippers, and consists of the novel 'fea-. tures herein shown, described and claimed.
My principal object is to make a light fixture for attachment to a hair or wool clipper, and adapted for throwing the light downwardly upon the cutter and forwardly in front of the cutter.
Another object of my invention is to make a light fixture for attachment to a hair or wool clipper, the clipper being operated by a flexible shaft from a motor and the light fixture being operated from the same line as the motor by a branch line run through a transformer and along the flexible shaft.
Another object is to make a light fixture having a spring clip adapted to snap onto an% off from the thumb nut of a clipper.
igure 1 is a side elevation of a hair or -wool clipper provided with a light attachment in accordance with the principles of my invention, the flexible shaft and light line being broken away.
Fi 2 is a front perspective of the light attachment and the spring clip engaging the thumb nut of the clipper, the clipper being omitted.
Fig. 3 is a perspective of the spring clip shown in Figs. 1 and 2.
. Fig. 4 is an electric diagram showing how the light attachment is operated fromfthe same line that operates the .motor to drive the flexible shaft of the clip-per.
The clipper 1, shown in Fig. 1, has a clamping plate 2 held in place by a stud bolt 3 anchored to the body of the clipper and extending through the plate 2 and a thumb nut 4 upon the stud bolt. I place an expansive coil spring 5 upon the bolt 3 'against the plate 2 und er the nut 4 so as v to elevate the nut for convenience in applyof soft metal and consists of the ferrule 10,
the housing;11,;and the reflectin portion 12. The electric cord 13 is passed erly surroundthe globe 6 and throw the' light upon the cutter 14 and in front of the cutter.
The spring clip 8 is formed of a single piece of wire, the center of the wire being bent to form the U-shaped attaching portion 15, arms 16 and 17 extending laterally from the portion 15, the curved bars 18 and 19 extending from the arms 16 and 17, the spaced return bends 20 and 21 at the ends of the bars li8 .and 19, the second bars 22 and 23 parallel with the bars 18 and 19and spaced therefrom, and the end attaching fingers 24 and 1.25 within the U-shaped attaching portion "1'5. The attaching portion 15 and the attaching fingers 24; and 25 are soldlrlered to the 1lower sidelofdtle soclzket 7 alllld. t e srin ci is appie y pacin t e rim 0 f th thu ihb nut 4 between the r turn bends 20 and 21 and forcing the return bends apart until they pass the largest diameter of the nut and the rim of the nut fits between the arms 19 and, 23 and 18 and 22, as shown in Fig. 2.
Referring to the diagram shown in Fig. 4 the house line has the conductors '26 and 2 7 connected to the generator 28, and the branch lines 29 and 30 operate the motor 31; the clipper 1 is connected to the motor 31 by a flexible shaft 32. The branch lines 33 and 34; lead from the lines 29 and 30 to a transformer 35, and the lines 36 and 37 run along the flexible shaft 32 to the lamp 6. A
v parting from the spirit and scope of my in- A vention as claimed.
, I claim: l
1. A light attachment for clippers comprising a lamp socket, a lamp in the socket, a; spring clip secured to the socket and adapted to engage the thumb nut of a clipper, an electric cord connected to the socket,
through tre ferrule 10 some distance and then propand a lamp reflector comprising a ferrule fitting the electric cord, a housing fitting the lamp socket and a reflecting portion surrounding the upper 'partof the lamp.
2. In a light attachment for clippers or the like, a spring clip formed of a single piece of Wire having a center U-shaped bend, curved bars extending from the U-shaped bend, return bends at the ends of the bars, second bars parallel to the first mentioned bars, fingers extending therefrom into the U-shaped bend, a lamp socket, and means to attach the clip to the lamp socket.
3 In a light attachment for clippers or the like, a spring clip formed of a single piece of Wire having a center U-shaped bend, arms extending laterally from the U-shaped bend, curved bars extending from the arms, spaced return bends at the ends of the bars, second bars parallel with the first bars and spaced therefrom, fingers extending from the second bars into the U-shaped bend, a lamp socket, and means to connect the U- shaped bend and fingers to the socket.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
H. VJ HODGES.
