UNITED STATES WILLIE O. BESAVV, OF REEDLEY, CALIFORNIA.
FUSE FLUG.
Application filed February 6, 1923. Serial No. 617,277'.
To all 'whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, WILLIE O. BnsAW, a citizen oi" the United States, residing at Reedley, in the county of Fresno and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fuse Plugs, of which the following is a specification.
The primary object ot this invention resides in the provision ot a fuse plug, wherein the same is provided with two ot' the usual fusible members for substantially doubling the life ot the plug.
A 'further object of the invention is the provision of such an article that is comparatively simple ot construction, and inexpensive of manufacture, the plug embodywv ing relatively few parts and these so correlated as to produce a compact and highly usetul article.
The nature. and advantages 01' the invention will be better understood when the tollowing detailed description is read in connection with the accompanying `rawings, the invention residing in the construction, combination, and arrangement ot parts as claimed.
In the drawings forming part of this application, like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views, and wherein Figure l is an elevational view of a plug constructed in accordance with the present invention.
Figure 2 is a top plan view thereof.
Figure 3 is a transverse cross sectional view upon the line 3-3 or Figure l.
Figure l is a vertical transverse sectional view upon the line M of Figure l.
Figure 5 is a perspective view ot the maj or member ot my plug, and
Figure 6 is a side elevational view of one or the thread sleeves employed by me.
lith particular reference to the drawings, my :fuse plug embodies the provision ot a cylindrical-shaped solid wooden plug 5 bevelled at its opposite ends as at 6. I have stated that this plug 5 is of wood but it is nevertheless understood that other suitable material may be used without departing from the spirit or" the invention.
The upper and lower ends of the member 6 are each provided with a cross bore 7, these bores being at opposite sides of the plug 5 and in parallelism with each other. By a consideration of Figure 4, it will at once be apparent that one end of each of the bores 'Tr' terminates at a point centrally ot the ends of the plug, and that the opposite ends ot each ont these bores 7 terminate at a point beneath the central lon0'itudinal axis ot the plug, or in other words, each of these bores extend at an angle substantially forty-live degrees with respect to the central vertical axis of the plug.
lllithin each of the bores 7, there is positioned a fusible wire S, the opposite ends ot' each being coiled as at 9 tor receiving tacks or theV like fastening means 10, whereby these fusible wires 8 are maintained within their respective bores.
Upon the plug 5 adjacent the opposite ends thereof are sleeve members l2, each ot which is formed with a thread 13, which thread is in the torni ot a corrugation as more clearly shown in Figures 3 and l. rilhese sleeves l2 are maintained in position upon the plug 5 by soldering the upper edge et the same to the heads oi the side tacks 10 as at lll, which soldering also connects the :tusible wires 8 with the upper and lower sleeves la.
In view of the above description, it will at once be apparent that the end tacks l0 form one ot the contacts and that the sleeves 12 form the other contacts, and in the practical application of the above described fuse plug, should one of the fusible wires S burn out or become otherwise disrupted, the plug may be removed from its socket and inverted, to be again received within the socket.
While I have herein shown and described the preferred embodiments of the present invention, it is nevertheless to be understood that minor changes may be made therein, without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
1iWhat I claim as new is A fuse plug' comprising a body of wood having a bore leading in from one end thereof and extending through the side of the body, a fusible element threaded through the bore, a tack extending into the end ot the body and contacting with the fusible element, a sleeve circumscribing the body, and a second tack lined to the sleeve and extending into the side of the body and contacting with the fusible element.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
