, 1,553,784 PATENT OFFICE.
' BAG HOLDER.-
Application m April, 1925. Serial ,No. 25,427.
To all whom it may concern: V
. Be it known that MIL'roN" LEON and WILLIAM B. L ON, citizens of the United States, residing at Musko county of Muskogee, and State of klahoma, and Locust Grove, county of Mayes, and State of Oklahoma, respectively, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bag -Holders,- of which the following is a specificatio a y This invention'relates to holders for paper and other bags and has special reference to a holder for raduated sizes of such bags which is prefera 1y termed a bag dispensing holder. v
One object of the invention is to im rove the general construction of devices 0 this character. p A second object of the invention is to provide an. improved device of this character wherein it is easy to extract one bag at a time from the bag packages without disturbing the remainder.
A. third important object of; thev invention is to provide a bag holder of this description wherein each ba of a package supported inthe holder,wi be so arranged thatit may be readily extracted from the holder without disturbing the remaining bags in the package.
' With the above and other objects in view as will be hereinafter apparent, the invention consists in general of certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically claimed.
In the accompanying drawings like characters of reference indicate like parts in the several'views, and-=- Figure 1 is a front elevation of a bag holder constructed in accordance with this invention.
Figure 2 isa side elevation thereof.
Figure 3 is an enlarged detail section on the vertical median line of Figure 1 showing the manner in which the bags are held.-
In the present embodiment of the invention the-re is disclosed a support or base 10 which is in the form of a vertical plank. On this base are secured the cross bars 11 which are arranged. in series spaced vertically from the top to bottomof the holder with the spaces gradually increasing in extent to correspond with the lengths of the the lower end of the bag package.
bags. On each of the cross bars 11 is supported the fixed member 12 of a spring hinge 13, themovable member 13' of which is attached to a plate 14 forming a support for the lower ends of the next succeeeding bags. Extending at right angles to each of the plates 14 is a plate 15 having at its outer edge a flange 16 to hold in place The plates 14 are of such lengths as, under the influence of thespring hinges 13, to drop .inwardly toward the support 10 just above the nextlower spring hinge 13. Each plate 15, which may be called the foot support, has extending diagonally from its outer edge and downwardly therefroma presser plate 17 the lower end of which extends below the next lower hinge 13 so as to grip the bags B over the hinge 13, as best shown in Figure 3. Now from this figure it will be seen that each bunch of bags has its upper end pressed inwardly by the plate 14, is gripped around the next lower hinge 13 and has its lower end pressed against the next lower plate .14 and is supported at its lower end by the and crimping member or plate 17 straddle the next lower hinge 13.
.Now in operation the pack of bags is simply dropped in the suitable receptacle formed by the members 14 and 15, while the one just above is drawn outwardly so that the upper ends of the bags B project above the respective hinge 13. Then the next upper bag support is allowed to drop back, under the influence of the spring hinge 13 pertaining thereto, whereupon the pack of bags takes a position similar to that shown in Figure 3. In such position it will be observed that the bag pack is crimped around the hinge 13 by the members 15 and 17 of the support next above. Under these conditions each bag of a definite size may be withdrawn without disturbing the remainder of the bags in the Pack.
The bag holders or sack containers may be made of Wood, light metal, wire or a combination of all three.
llO
7 crimp a bag There has thus been provided a simple and efficient device of the kind described and for the purpose specified.
It is obvious that minor changesanay-bemade in the form and construction. of the 1 invention without departing from the material spirit thereof. It is not, therefore,.
desired to confine the invention to the exact form herein shown and described, but it-isdesired to include all such within the scope-claimed"- n Having thus described the invention, .what is claimed as new, is: I r
1. In a device of the kind described, a series of spring hinge supports, spring hinges each having one part fixed to one of said supports and theremainingpa-rt extending toward the next succeeding spring hinge support, bag carriers fixed to "each-of as properly come the last mentioned parts -0fthe spring hinges and terminating short of the-next succeeding spring. hinge, and means-associated with eaclrof said bag carriers to pack over the next succeeding spring hinge. 7
2. In, a device of the kind described, a series of spring hinges vertically spaced and each havingrits upper arm fixedly secured to a suitable support, a bag support carried by and extending downwardly iromthe lower arm of each i spring-hinge, saidb'agsupport including ;a back plate ofp'roper length-to terminate short of the axis of; the next spring hinge below, anda crimping member carried bythe bag support and terminating below the axis of said second hinge.
'3. In a device of'the k-ind described, a
series of spring hinges verticallyspaced and and inwardly at an acute angle theretoand terminatingat its inner end below the axis of the next lower spring hinge.
4;. In a device of the kind described, a
series of spring hinges vertically spaced and each having its upper armfixedly securedtoa' suitable support, a bag support carried by and extending downwardly from the lower arm of each spring hinge, said bag o support includinga back plate of proper lengthl-to terminateshort of the axis -of the next spring hinge below, said bagsu pportalso including a second plate extending outwardly from the first plate,"-
a crimping-plate attached to the outer end of the lastmentioned plate and extending downwardly and inwardly at an acute angle thereto and terminating at its inner end hinge, and an upwardly extendingflan-ge at "the outer edge of" the second mentioned plate.
In testimony whereof they hereunto afiix their signatures MILTONLEON. i WILLIAM LEON;
