e it known that I, JAMES M. STEWART, a ,citizen of the United States, residing at Denver, in the county of Denver and State of Colorado, have invented certain new and /useful Improvements in Cigar and Cigarette Holders, of which the following is a specication.

My invention relates to cigar and cigarette holders and its objects is to provide 1n A connection with a mouth piece of suitable form and construction, a tray adapted to support the ashes on a cigar or cigarette held in an end thereof.

By the use of my invention, a smoker may enjoy a cigar or cigarette without danger of tray vpreferably provided lwith la shallow depressoiling his clothes with falling ashes and when a convenient place for the deposit of the ashes is not at hand, they may be retained until an opportunity presents itself for their disposal.

With the above object in view, my invention consists in the construction and combinations of parts hereinafter described with reference to the accompanying drawings in the several views of which like parts are similarly designated and in which- Figure l represents a top view of a cigarette holder to which my invention is applied, with a cigarette held` at an end thereof; i

Referring first. to Figures 1 to 3, the reference numeral 2 designates a mouth piece of simple form which is adapted to hold a cigarette 3 at an end thereof.

A trough-shaped tray 4 is slidably1 supported on the holder through the medium of a sleeve 5 formed integrally at an end of the and lthe opposite end of the tray is sion 6 which in the operationserves to prevent the ashes on a -cigarette held in the mouth-piece from dropping through the open lend .of the device.

The holder hasti circumferential ridge 7 which functions as ishoulder to limit the rearward movement of theA sleeve, and it is preferred to make the holder exteriorlyof ovalf section as shown in Figure 3, to prevent the sleeve from turning on the same.

The mouth-piece and the tray are` proportioned so that when the latter is retracted to the position in which its sleeve engages with the shoulder 7, its forward end rests upon the circumference of the holder, and so that when the tray is in its protruding position as shown in Figures 1 and 2, it extends suiciently forward of the corresponding end of the holder to cover a cigarette of ordinary length. V

The longitudinal edges ofthe tray may be scalloped as shown inthe drawings toen` hance its ornamental appearance.

In operation, the tray is projected from the mouth-piece so as to extend beyond the end of a cigarette held at an end thereof as' at the end of the cigarette are supported in the tray and may be retained until an opportunity presents 'itself for their disposal and the depression from slipping through the open end thereof when the holder is tilted.

-When the device is not in use, the tray is for convenience retracted until ,the end of its sleeve engages with the shoulder on the mouth-piece.

In the form of my invention illustrated in Fi res 4 to 7, the parts are proportioned to hoil1 and protect a cigar' of ordinary length.

The tray is composed of two members 8 and 9 one of which slides within the other to extend or contract the device in correspondence with the length of the cigar. .The-

of the inner member is contracted as-at'13 to engage the mouth-piece when the extensible tray is in its retracted position thereon, asshown in Figure 7.

What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

A cigar or cigarette holder comprising in combination, a mouth-piece, and an extensimember and a relatively slidable member having e pin extending through the slot thereof.
