Be itk-nownthat; we, ELMER R; THOMAS and PEARLEY\ E"; LANG ITT, citlzens of the United States, and residents of Shidler, in, s the Oklahoma, haveinvented certain new and useful Improvements in- Pump Jacks, of
county; of Osage and State of which the following is: a specification.
This invention relates to pump jacks foruse'with oil wel;l' equipment and "aims to.
providei a-simple, novel and effective means for transmitting motion from the shackle rod line-to; thepolishrod', and also to provide means for preventi-n-g in-jury or damage, to the mechanism off the jack or tothe as sociated i parts 7' of the ;oil well equipment in the event of breakage of theshackle rod line.--
Otherobjects and advantages of'the invention reside-.111 certain novel features of theconstruct-ion, combination and arrangement of piartswhich willbehereinafter more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claims,- reference being had to the accompanying-drawingsforming part of this specification,- and in which:
Figure 1 is a view in side elevation showing one embodiment of l the invention,
Fi gure:-2is-afragmentary group View in" perspective of certain-of the? parts prior to assembly, and v,
Figure 3 is a View in end -elevation looking toward the left of'Fig. 1.
In the drawings, a- -b,ase is designated at 1 and on the base: 1 spaced sills 2 are supported and secured. Standards -3. extend vertically from the. base-and have theinlow'er ends suit ablyfsecure'd' to the sills 2. Brace members 4 and'5 'are' provided for the standards 3,- the' bracemembers extending between the sills 2 and the standards 3 and being suitably fastened to both.
The upper ends of the standards 3 carry bearings 6 which receive trunnions 8 projecting from the sides of saddle 9 on which the centers of the spaced members 10 of a walking beam 11 are fastened.
At one end of the walking beam 11 a bearing block 12 is secured, the bearing block having a body portion 13 which fits between the members 10 and is secured thereto having flanges 14 continuous with its top and resting on the tops of the members 10. The forward end of the bearing block is slotted, as at 15, from its top to its bottom and portions of the bearing block on the opposite sides of the slet are provided with alin ed grooves 16 to receive the trunnions lfl of a timber screw '18 or other suitable device,
whereby'the'walking beam is connected to the polish rod 19. v
For transmitting motion from the shackle rod lineto the. walking beam a; truss frame,
designated-generally at 21, is provided and includes spaced horizontal members 22, spaced vertical members 23 and an inclined member 24. The members'of the truss frame are secured to each other and are held in spaced relation byvirtue of the interpositionof the reduced extensions 25 of the inclined member24 in between the spaced elements of thehorizontal andvertical members 22'and 23.- A bearing blo'ck 26 isprovided tofacilitate connection between the truss frame and theshackle rod. line and has a.- portion 27 extending between and secured to the elements of-the vertical member of the truss frame and this also aids in-holdelements of this horizontalmember 22 and securedthereto. he elements of-the horizontaltruss-member will extend beyond the vertica-l'member 23,-as indicated-at 30, and these extensions 30 are pivotally mounted, as at 31,0n the upper end-of a link 32 which is pivotally secured, as at; 33,130 a bearing block 34 fastened to, the sills 2.
The position of the link- 32 is controlled by means of a rod 35 which has a turnbuckle 36 embodied therein; I The rod,;35 connects to the stationary structure "of the base or to the casing head. 1 c f e The motion of theftruss: frame-is trans mitted to the calking beam by means of a pair of oppositely disposed U-shaped stirrups 40 having their legs secured to a connecting base 41. One of the stirrups engages the block 28 and the other engages a block 42 fastened to the spaced members of the walking beam. 7
Inorder to prevent damage or injury to r mal operation of the jack and so long as the shackle rod line remains intact, the support ing post 50 is not engaged with the walkmg beam since its upper end is immediately below the lowest position assumed by the walking beam at such times. a I
' In the event the shackle rod line breaks the weight of the polish rod and the parts 'carried 'thereby' tends to cause the polish rod to move forcibly down to an extent beyond the limit of its normal stroke and consequently'break orinjure the parts of the oil well equipment and the parts of the pump jack. Such excessive downward movement is, however, prevented in the structure proposed by the present invention foras soon as the shackle rod line breaks the resulting movement of the pump jack swings the post 50 to the right as viewed in the drawings to position the same to engage the walking beam and support the same and consequently the parts of the oil well equipment connected therewith.
e claim:
1. Apump jack'including a walking beam and a shackle red line and compris ng 'means for transmitting motion from the shackle rodline to the walking beam, and a supporting post operated from said means and engageable with the walking beam to support the same and the parts carried thereby in the event of breakage of the shackle line. I
' 2. 'A pump ja'ck including a walking beam and a shackle rod line and comprising motion transmission means between the shackle rod llne and the walkmg beam, sald motion with the walking beam and also having a vertical member connected with the shackle rod line, a supporting post engageable with the walking beam for supporting the same and the parts carried thereby in the event of breakage of the shackle rod line, and alink-connecting the vertical member of the truss frame and the supporting post.
3. A pump jack including 'a base, a sill on'said base, a standard secured to the sill, a walking beam pivotally supported on the standard, a shackle rod line and motion transmissio'n'means between the shackle rod line and the walking beam and comprising a truss frame including a lower member and a've'rtical member, a pivoted standardconnected with the base and connected with one end of the lower member of the truss frame for supportingthe same, means for connecting the vertical'member of the truss frame with the shackle rod line, and a connecting rod between the lower member of the truss frame and the walking beam.
4. A pump jack including a walking beam, a shackle rod line, motion transmission means betweenthe shackle rod line and the walking beam, and supporting means operated from. said motion transmission means and engageable with the walking beam to support the same and the parts carried thereby in the event of breakage of the shackle rod line. a
