Connected to the lever 31 is an operating chain 33 which may be manually or automatically controlled to open the valve by an upward pull imparted to the chain, which may lead,` if desired, to anyfloor above vthe basement. `In order to prevent the acei-y dental full closure of the valve'21, the lever 3l is Vprovided with a pivoted leg 34 which, through contact with the floor, will limit the downward movement of the end of the lever and consequently limits the closure of the valve. The leg 34 is provided with an adjustable foot- 35 whereby the limit of closing movement may be readily regulated.
In the operation of the burner, paper or the like is placed in the fire plate 7 and a quantity of oil is allowed to overflow the burner tip and saturate such material. The flow of oil is now shut off and the material contained on the fire plate is ignited. This burning material will soon gasify the oil contained in the superheater and its connections. As soon as a quantity of gas has been generated, the valve is again opened to permit the gas to escape from the top to ignite, and this burning gas impinging lof the superheater and burner will quickly gasify all of the oil in the superheater and a certain proportion thereof standing in the generator as common in the art.
It will be evident kthat thereafter the quantity of oil consumed by the burner may be readily regulated through opening movements imparted to the valve 21 by means of the pull chain 33 and gravitatlve closing movements imparted by the weight 32. It will be noted that the bottom of the super heater 10 is slightly concave and centrally thereof is formed with a shallow conical connection having its apex in 'alignment with the jet orifice of the burner tip so as to deflect the flame radially outward in all directions, the concave surface of the superheater having a tendency to cause the ame to spread horizontally loutward sufficiently to impinge against the walls of the fire pot so as to obtain maximum benefit from the heat units and thereby affect conservation of fuelin the operation of the burner.
From the above description it will be apparent that I have produced lan oil burner of the character described which possesses all of the features of advantage set forth as desirable, and while I'have described and claimed the preferred embodiment of the same, I reserve the right to make all changes properly falling within the spirit and scope of the appended claim.
I claim:
In an oil burner, a supply pipe, .a pair of vertical stand pipes leading upwardly therefrom, an inverted U-shaped generator communicating with the sand pipes, aV superheater between the legs of the generator and communicating at itsyupper side with the overlying part of the generator, a fire plate supported on the stand pipes below the generator, a coupling mounted on the central portion of the fire plate vertically below the superheater and provided with a gas nozzle, a vapor pipe connecting the superheater` with the nozzle, a slide valve in the nozzle, and means for adjustingsaid valve.
