W'ith the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed may be made within the scope of what is claimedk without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the 'accompanying drawings Figure l represents a top plan view of a golf club head constructed in yaccordance with this invention.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation thereof. Fig. 3 is a bottom .plan view thereof.
Fig. 4 is a longitudinal section taken onl the line 4 4 of Fig. l, and
Fig. 5 is a transverse section taken on the line 5 5 of Fig. l.
The head constituting this invention coinprises a metal casing l preferably con'- structed of aluminum and shaped tojconform to the shape of an ordinary golf head having tubular extension 2 at its rear end to receive the handle or stick, not shown.
This casing l is flattened at one side and provided with a'removable side 3 secured in position by screws 4 which enter the filler or insert 5 which is constructed of any suitable hard wood. These screws operate not only to hold the side 3 in operative position, but to retain the filler or insert in the casing.
The insert 5 is further secured in the casingr'l by means of screws 6 which enter through the bottom of the'casing, having their heads counter-sunk as is shown clearly in Fig. 5.v
The tubular extension 2has the bore 7` thereof arranged at an oblique angle to receive the golf. club stick or handle, not
shown, which is ysecured therein in any suitable or desired manner. A golf club head constructed as `herein showny and described is practically indestructible, since the wooden filler or insert 5 is completely encased except for the top portion thereof on `which there is no wear, and aluminum being a hard f metal will resist strains to which the club head is subjected.
Various changes portion and other minor details Vof construction may bemade without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of thel claimed invention.
I claim l. A golf club head comprising a" thin metal casing having an insert of'wood or` the like conforming to the shape thereof and encased therein except at the top thereof, thus combining lightness with durability.
2. A golfclub head comprising a thin aluminum casing having a rearwardly and upwardly projecting tubular extension and having one side thereofy flattened and equipped with a removable plate,l a woodenV filler mounted in said casing and conform'- ing to the shape thereof, and screwsyentering through the bottom of the casingv and through saidplate and engaging the filler, said Vfiller being encased entirely inl metal except at the top thereof thus combining lightness with durability. A
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own have `hereto afixed my signature.
