Description

A. MONSEN AUTOMOBILE RADIATOR CAP Filed NOV. 6, 1922 dg gw #M i; I
Patented Sept. 1, 1925.
ADOLPH MONSEN, or :noeimsron'r, INDIANA.
AUTOMOBILE RADIATOR CAP.
Application filed Kovember 6; 1922. Serial No. 599,234.
all whom it may concern: Be it known that I, ADOLPHIMONSEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Logansport, in the county of (lass and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Automobile Radiato-r Caps, of which the following is a specification. V This invention. relates to automobile radi- 10 ator caps.
It ise specially efficacious for caps equipped with more or less fragile tempera ture indicators.
It will be explained as embodied in a cap provided with a Boyce motometer, ,al-
though it may be used with othertemperature indicators.
One of the objects of th invention is to provide an improved radiator cap. Another object is to provide a devlce for protecting the temperature indicator against injury.
Another object is to provide a cap which is novel and attractive in appearance."
Other objects and advantages will here.- inafter appear.
trated in the accompanying drawing, where- Fig. 1 is a front elevation of a complete cap with a motometer shown in dotted lines.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation. Fig. 3 is a top plan. r Fig. l is a section on the line 4- of Fig.
5 3, showing the arrangement for adjusting the position of the projecting horns to in sure an unobstructed view of the motometer, and V v Fig. 5 is a bottom view of the cap.
a somewhat hemispherical form and recessed in its underside to receive a threaded cup-shaped radiator closure '11. Both the body and cup are perforated to receive the usual stem of a temperature indicator 12. Projecting upwardly and outwardly from the upper side of body 10 are three horns 13. These horns are preferably made integral with the body, although they may be made separately and secured thereto in any suitable manner. Y
The radiator cap has a body 10, shown inv The horns, projecting upwardly beside the temperature indica'tor, protect the same from injury and present an attractive appearance.
- The number of horns may, of course. be
varied but three have'been fou'ndto; give excellent results. They afford a large degree of protection and'may be so turned 6 as to give an unobstructed View of the indicator from the drivers seat. Adjusted so that one of the horns projects toward the front of the car, the device presentsv a pleasing and symmetrical appearance and the indicator is readily visible between the other horns. I a
Adjustment may be provided between body 10 and cup 11 so that the desired po sition of the horns may be secured when the capv is tightly screwed into place; onthe radiator outlet; Body 10 and cup 11 are 7 rotatably related to each other, so that there 7' I may be relative movement therebetweenr Ascrew 14, threadinginto body 10 and extendingthrough a slot 15 in-cup 11, assists in clamping the cup and body inthe desired position. An embodiment of; the 1nvent1on 1s illus- The cap serves to close the radiator and support the temperature indicator in the s usual manner. The projecting: horns protect the indicator, especially in the' event that the cap is dropped in filling 'or inspecting the radiator. V V 1 Having described my invention what'I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent; is
1. A radiator cap havinga body centrally" perforated to receive a heat indicating device and threaded to close a radiator and upwardly and outwardly extending horns extending above the-heat indicating device. 2. A radiator cap having a body for clos- In testimony whereof I hereunto subscribe my name.
