Be it known that I, JEROME J. RODEN- BERG, a citizen of the United States, resid-V ing at Providence, in the county of Provi-.v dence andState of Rhode Island, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Vanity Cases, of which the following is a specification.

r1`his invention relates to a construction of case or receptacle which is employed more particularly for `carrying toilet preparations such as powder and rouge; and the invention has for its object to provide an improved rconstruction of such a receptacle or casing having a b'ody portion and a lid hinged thereto, each adapted to carry a cake of powder, rouge or other toilet preparation,

and a mirror so mounted on either the body or lid that it may be swung into position to be used', while both the rouge and the powder are being applied.

A further object of this invention is to 'provide a mirror which vwill automatically swing from its folded position in the casing f to its extended position upon the lid member of the casing being moved to open position, the said mirror being so mounted that upon its being swung to extended position the rouge and powder compacts will be both simultaneouslyfully exposed for use.

With these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, as will be more fully. described, and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.

It is found in the practical construction of a powder and rouge carrying case, of advantage to so mount the mirror carried in such a case that it may be automatically swung to a position to be used for the applicationv of either the powder or rouge carna-tes the body member of the casing, which is preferably of a diameter to receive the standard size cake of powder l11 andpowder-puff 12. `Hinged to the body as at 34L is a lid member 13 inpwhich'is a. deck plate 14 having a recess or opening 15 therein for the reception of a cake of rouge 16.

A mirror-mounting member 17 having a mirror 18 secured therein is pivotally mounted as at 19 on the said deck plate to swing in a. plane substantially parallel to this plate from its folded positron, as shown in Figure 7, to its extended position, as sho-wn in Figure 2. I' pivotally mount the mirror carrying member 17 uponl the deck plate 14 by means of a pivot pin 2O whichmay be formed in any desired manner but as here shown is `formed by cutting and bending down a porti-on of the stock in the bottom 0f the member 17. This finger 2O is passed through an opening21 in the deck plate 14 and a sleeve 22 flanged as'at 24 to provide an increased bearing surface, is iixedly mounted Von this pin 20 by any suitable means such as solder 23. v

In order that the mirror will automatically assume its extended position, as shown in Figure 2, a Spring 25 is coiled about the sleeve 22, one end of the same being fixed to the sleeve by passing it through an opening 26 therein and the other end being -ioo f fixed to a linger 27 cut and bent downwardly from thestock of the deck plate 14.

Upon closing this powder case, the operlator manually folds the mirror 18 into the .casing by swinging .the same on its pivot to cover the rouge recess ,'15 andV then the 11d is moved to Closed position and retained in this position by means of a eeteh 2S. The walls of the casing hold the mirror in this 'folded position engagement of the mirror Withtlie edge VWells 29, as lillus rated in Figure 7. ln opening the casing, the Catch Q8 is operated by e presser member to relense the lid end upon moving the lid to open position, as shown in Figures and 3, the spring 25 being` under tension automatieally moves the mirror from its folded position to its ef'tendedposition against the llimiting stop 31.

The foregoing description is directed solely towards the Construction illustrated, g, l desire it to be understood that l reserve the privilege of resorting,` to all the mechani- Cel Changes to which the device is suse-optible, the invention being delined and limited only by the terms of the appended Claims.
