MACHINE ron cnr'rme TOILET AND LIKE soars.
Application filed January 14, 1924. Serial No. 686,185.
To (lilo-710m it may concern:
Be it known that I, Avons'rn Maine CHARLES on Goran. citizen of the Republic of France, residing at Pantin, Seine,
France, post-oilice address 63 -Rue Charles Nodier, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Machmes for Cutting Toilet and like Soaps, of which the follow- The present invention has for its object to provide a continuously working machine for cutting bars of toilet and like soap such as issue from an extrusion press, into cakes or tablets having approximately the shape which they are intended to receive finally-in the press, saidmachine being extremely simple in construction. consisting of but few parts and capable of producing cakes of soap of different forms.
One construction of a machine embody I of the machine.
Fig. i is a side elevation'of the plunger member of the punching mechanism, detached; and
Fig. 5 is a plan view of said member.
The frame of the i. machine A-A is mounted on thebase H and carries at A a double crank B which is mounted in bearings C and is driven by any suitable means, for instance, a pulley O operatively connected to a driving member.
The rotating crank B imparts through a connecting rod D a reciprocatingmovement to a rod 1) which slides in bearings F carried by the part'Af ot' the frame. E therefore receives longitudinal moven'ient in the direction of its own axis. To the free end of the rod E is detachably secured the male member G of the'puncl'iing apparatus. back'or base portion preferably of the form shown in Figs. 3 and 5, provided at'its upper and lower ends with sharpened, forwardly projecting lips G adapted to cut into a bar of soap in its forward movement, said lips being outwardly curvedto con- The rod This male member G comprises a.
form to the curvature of the opening in the female member hereinafter} described. The
baseport-ion G is curved or con'caved at its edges to facilitate removal of the cut oif cake of soap therefrom, and is further provided at its lower end with a pair of prongs or grippers which after the punching operation remove the waste pieces of soap, as
.will be explained hereinafter. A second frame I mountedon the base H and provided with a circular opening J arranged opposite the centre of the rod E, carries the female member K of the punching apparatus-which comprises a plate or disk having an opening therein, shown herein of oval form, adapted to permit the passage of the male member G tl'ierethrough. It may be pointed out that members G and K are detachable which enables. tablets or'cakes of various shapes and dimensions to be cut 011 the machine by the aid of several sets of exchangeable cutting apparatus.
An inclined slideway or chute which may be adjusted as required is fixed to the aforesaid frame I and serves for supporting the bar of soap to be cut. Tlle'bar descends owing to the inclined arrangement of the slideway by its own gravity and assumes after each punching operation by which a cake has been cut ofi the required position relatively to the punching apparatus in which it is'held by a stop; M fixed to the frame I.
The operation of the machine is as follows The machine works continuously there being no need to start and stop the machine after each punching operation. The bar of soap s placed upon the shdeway L and as v the plungerG moves away from the counter part K, the bar descends and rests against the stop M. Up'onth-e return of the member G toward the member K, the lowermost portion of the bar of soap iseaught between said members and upon continued advance movement of the member G Jts'upper and lower lipsG' cut into the bar of soap and sever therefrom a cake, which cake'willbe pushed by the member G through the opening in the female member K, whereupon-an operator standing in front of the machine will grasp the cut cake of soap as it emerges.
from the member K, the member G being, I as l'icrcmbel'ore stated, imvardly curved at its side edges to permit the ready removal male member G, there will be pieces of war-tesoap below the opening ln 'thc teznale member K. wl :ch will either drop into the receptacle immediately below the stop 31, V or wnl rest on said vstop. in order to prevent" accumulation of such waste soap to such an extentas to interfere with the operation of the member G, the so called grippers or prongs are secured in the lower end of .said member, whereby, when the member 'moves backward it will drag back any waste pieces that may be in the way. At the some time the bar: of soap desce' s again along the slideway L and is arrested by the' stop M'whereupon the describedoperation is repeated. 1
If desired, the same double crank might be used for simultaneously operating a second identical macnine arranged on the lefthand side or theaxis X Y.
Having now particularly described an ascertained the nature of my said invention and in what manner the same is to be performed, I declare that which I claim'is 1. A machine for cutting bars of soap into tablets or cakes, comprising a two-part punching apparatus, means for reciprocating one part toward and away from the other, and feeding means for causing the bar of soap to advance by gravity between the two parts of the punching mechanism after each punching operation,
2. A machine for cutting bars of soap into tatdets or cakes, comprising a two-part panicking apparatus, means for reciprocating one part toward and away from the other, feeding means for causing the bar of soap to advance by gravity between the two parts of the punching mechanism for each punchmg operation and means for hunting said advancing movement.
, 3. A machine for cutting bars of soap into tablets or cakes, comprising a two-part punching apparatus, means for reciprocating one part toward and away from the other, feeding means for causing the bar of soap to advance by gravity between the two parts of the punching mechanism after each punching operation and grippers carried by the reciprocating part for removing the waste pieces of soap during the backward movement of said reciprocating part.
4. A machine of the class described, comprising, in combination, a fixed die member having an opening therethrougli, a. reciprocableplunger adapted to fitsaid opening, means for reciprocating said member toward and fr in the fixed member, an inclined slideway adapted to deliver a bar of soap adjacent to said fined member and between it and the reciprocable member, and a stop for supporting said bar in said position.
5. A machine of the class described, comprising, in combination, a die member removably seoured'in operative position and provided with an opening therethrough, reciprocable means adapted to move toward and from said die and centrally disposed relative to said opening, a head ren'iovably carried by said reciprocable means andadapted to fit said opening, an inclined slideway disposed in position to deliver a bar of soap by gravity adjacent to said fixed member and between it and the head, and a stop for supporting the bar in said position.
In testimony w .ereof I afiix my signature.
