France, post-oilice address 63 -Rue Charles Nodier, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Machmes for Cutting Toilet and like Soaps, of which the follow- The present invention has for its object to provide a continuously working machine for cutting bars of toilet and like soap such as issue from an extrusion press, into cakes or tablets having approximately the shape which they are intended to receive finally-in the press, saidmachine being extremely simple in construction. consisting of but few parts and capable of producing cakes of soap of different forms.

It may be pointed out that members G and K are detachable which enables. tablets or'cakes of various shapes and dimensions to be cut 011 the machine by the aid of several sets of exchangeable cutting apparatus.
An inclined slideway or chute which may be adjusted as required is fixed to the aforesaid frame I and serves for supporting the bar of soap to be cut. Tlle'bar descends owing to the inclined arrangement of the slideway by its own gravity and assumes after each punching operation by which a cake has been cut ofi the required position relatively to the punching apparatus in which it is'held by a stop; M fixed to the frame I.
The operation of the machine is as follows The machine works continuously there being no need to start and stop the machine after each punching operation. Having now particularly described an ascertained the nature of my said invention and in what manner the same is to be performed, I declare that which I claim'is 1. A machine for cutting bars of soap into tablets or cakes, comprising a two-part punching apparatus, means for reciprocating one part toward and away from the other, and feeding means for causing the bar of soap to advance by gravity between the two parts of the punching mechanism after each punching operation,

A machine for cutting bars of soap into tatdets or cakes, comprising a two-part panicking apparatus, means for reciprocating one part toward and away from the other, feeding means for causing the bar of soap to advance by gravity between the two parts of the punching mechanism for each punchmg operation and means for hunting said advancing movement.
, 3. A machine for cutting bars of soap into tablets or cakes, comprising a two-part punching apparatus, means for reciprocating one part toward and away from the other, feeding means for causing the bar of soap to advance by gravity between the two parts of the punching mechanism after each punching operation and grippers carried by the reciprocating part for removing the waste pieces of soap during the backward movement of said reciprocating part.

A machine of the class described, comprising, in combination, a fixed die member having an opening therethrougli, a. reciprocableplunger adapted to fitsaid opening, means for reciprocating said member toward and fr in the fixed member, an inclined slideway adapted to deliver a bar of soap adjacent to said fined member and between it and the reciprocable member, and a stop for supporting said bar in said position.

A machine of the class described, comprising, in combination, a die member removably seoured'in operative position and provided with an opening therethrough, reciprocable means adapted to move toward and from said die and centrally disposed relative to said opening, a head ren'iovably carried by said reciprocable means andadapted to fit said opening, an inclined slideway disposed in position to deliver a bar of soap by gravity adjacent to said fixed member and between it and the head, and a stop for supporting the bar in said position.
