Application mea nay 17,
To a?? u-zom z't may concern.'
Be it known that I, Fuss CHiiisrIAXr, a citizen ot' the United States, residing'at lllashington, in the District of Columbia, have invented certain n .v and usetul Iniprovements in Radio Receiving Sets, o" which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in radio receiving sets, andv has particular retei'ence tothe structure of the set, wherein a receptacle or container is provided l'adjacent the instrument panel. l
An object of the invention resides in providing a radio receiving'set mounted in a closed container having a hinged section adapted to be opened to provide access to the instrument panel of the receiving set, provided with suitable manuell)v operable means for timing the set to receive radio impulses and formed with a slot providing access to a vcontainer formed adjacent to the panel.
Another object of the invention resides in providing a housing having a hinged cover section, an instrument panel mounted in the main portion of the housing and adapted. to be exposed by the opening of the cover section. inductance windings being provided in the housing having a manual control means on the instrument 'panel providingr the induct'ance thereof in a radio receiving circuit, said inductance being wound in said housing to provide a receptacle contiguous to said. panel, the panel mounting a .s" itable forni ot' detector electricallyl connected with the inductance, so that the receiving set con# tained in the housing maj7 be connected in the proper circuit with an aerial and ground ried on the instrument board for receiving radio signals. v
The invention also includes other objects and improvements in the details -of construevtion and arrangement, of the parts, which are more particularly described in the follov-:ing detailed description and in the claim, directed to a preferred tormet the invention, it being understood, however, that varions changes in the construction and arrangement of the parts may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as described in the speciication and claimed.
1n the drawing, forming apart of this application:
Figure 1 is' Va plan view of the radio re- 1924. Serial No. 7I4,Q57.
'in closed position, taken on the line 2f2 of lFigure 1,
A suitable l, .which is preferably constructed of wood or similar material, having a highly linished form of housing is indicated at outer surface, and is provided 'with an upper hinged section 2, forming a cover for the main body of the container, indicated at 1, and an instrument panel 3 formed of any insulating material being mounted in the upper open end ot' the container body 1,`
in a manner clearly illustrated'in the drawf ing. c
The panel preferably is removably fitted in the housing' and carries at the back or under side thereof, a plurality ofA posts 4 projecting in parallel spaced relation at substantially right angles from said panel and carrying at the free ends thereof ka plate o jot suitable insulating material, the corner portions of the plates being adapted toseat on suitable spacing pins 6 in the bottom of the housing 1 for holding said plate, as well as the instrument panel 3, in proper relation'in the housing An induct-anee coil is'provided in the housing by a winding of rectangular forni around the post 4, as in dicated at 7, from which lead a plnralitv of caps S, to corresponding lcontact points 9. in the instrument panel 3, for interposing drsired sections of said windings in a radi-i circuit, in which it is connected, through the operation of the adjustable contact 1l),
V adapted for operation h v the knob 11, in a isseated a plate 15, having a flange 16T adapted to engage the upper face of the panel 3 to limit the positioning of theplate in theopening. and a suitable form of locking device, vindicated generally at V17 is mounted in the panel adjacent the opening and provided with a suitable tongue for locking the plate 15 in the panel. A suit,` able 'form of detector, here indicated as a crystal detector las at 1S, is mounted, on the plate 16 and electrically connected with the inductance windingsv 7 and 12 in a well known manner, for cooperation therewith in timing in a radio signal vwhen properly connected in a radio receiving circuit.' The panel isprovided at 19 with a plurality of binding posts `to which the circuit inductance coils are connected, so that suitable connections aerial, a ground, and phon-es or other 'sound reproducing device, 'whereby the structure described may bensed as a radio receivingr Set. T he panel isprovided, at 20, with a slot, adapted to receive coins, which when inserted therethrough are housed within aA Vcontainer formed a't the rear or bottom of t.l panel b v the windings 7, and 12 of the radio receiving set, so that the 'saine may be used as abank, for'saving coins of various denominations, which will act in conjuncf i tion* with the inductances T and 12. to fur- -nifsh a capacity operating-in conjunction therewith, in receiving radio Signals. The cover 2 is also provided with a 'slotlndicuted at 21, which when said housing;r is closed, is
positioned over the slot 20, while an elongat- Aed slot sleeve 22 is mounted on the inner face may he made therewith to an' into the. container or receptacle below panel. -v
' lt will be seen from the foregoing struction that a novel forni of radio re ing set has been provided, which wil iiciently receive radiov signals, and whi constructed to forni a container or r( tacle in the rear of the panel adapte( receiving coins and like denomination money, so that the saine will form a ings bank therefor, the coins at ther: time, while being saved, cooperating the' receiving set, for increasing the eili cy, and aiding in the reception of sig thereby.
That I claim is:
In a device constituting a part of a i receiving set, a housing having an open a panel mounted on the open end' of thel ing,y a plurality of rod ineinbers mounte the panel and' projecting laterally there a plate mounted on the freeend of the members, a coil of wire mounted on rods and plates and contained within housing, said coil forming a closed con er von one side of said" panel and adapt serve as an inductance, said panel l forni-ed with a slot to perinitthe insel of metalli-c elements into the container In testimony whereof I aix my si' ture. l
