IMPROVEMENT IN PILE-CUTTERS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 155,056; dated September 15, 1874; applicationfiled February 14, 1874.

Be it known that I, ISAAC EUGENE WHITE, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State ot' New York, have invented a new and useful Improvelnent in Pile-Cutting Machine, of which the following is a specification:

Figure l is a` side view of my improved machine. Fig. 2 is a front View of the same. Fig. 3 is a detail cross-section of the same, taken through the line Fig.1.

The invention consists in improving the construction of pile-cutting machines by making the saw-frame independently adjustable in a shifting frame, so as to permit the adjustment of the sawshaft or of the frame, or of both, as hereinafter described.

A represents a boat, upon which is supported frame B, having the Ways C 5 D, a hoisting-rope; E, a pulley; F, a drum; G H, gearwheels, and I a shaft, having orank J. In

the ways C of frame B Iplace a sliding frame, K, having the bearings L, through which slides the rotary saw-shaft M, held by one or more collars, N. The latter is adjustably held by a set-screw so as to specially adjust the saw with respect to frame K, While it is generally adjusted With and by the sliding frame K, thus permitting the adjustment of the sawshaft and frame separately or together.

What I claim isf The combination, with .the sliding frame K, having bearings L thereon, ot' the saw-frame, arranged for independent vertical adjustment upon and relative to the shifting-frame, to permit the adjustment of the saw-shaft or ot' the frame, or of both, as described.
