LIQUID-FUEL REGULATOR.

T0 all whom t may] concern:
Be it known that VILLIAM P. OELKE, J r., a citizen of the United States, residing at Seattle, in the county of King and State of llfasliington, has invented certain new and useful Improvements in Liquid-Fuel Regulators, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improvement in gasoline feed means for automobiles and like vehicles, wherein provisionis made for feeding the gas from the storage tank to the carbureter under traveling conditions where the level of the carbureter is above that of the outlet of the tank.
The invention is particularly directed to l providing the closing cap of. the filling port of the tank with means torpermit the application to such cap of an air pump, whereby pressure may be introduced vonto the body of' gasoline within the tank, to cause said gasoline to flow under pressure to the carbureter notwithstanding the higher level of the latter.
The invention is more particularly concerned with the means for closing the air inlet against the escape of the air pressure, and the provision in such closing means of a construction whereby the accumulation of dirt or other refuse, tending to prevent a proper seating of the valve, will be entirely eliminated.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:
F ig. 1 is a view in elevation of the improved cap, showing air pressure hose connected thereto.
Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view of the same, a closing cap being shown applied.
Fig. 3 is a bottom plan view.
rlhe present invention consists in providing the usual cap 1 for closing the filling port 2 of the gasolinetank, with a central bore 4 extending through the cap and through an opstanding central nipple 5 integral with the cap.` The upper end of the nipple is threaded at 6 for the reception of the usual connecting terminal 7 of the yhose edges tend to retain any dirt or refuse which may enter through the bore in a position to interfere with the proper operation of the valve, and thus eventually defeat the very object of the invention. For the purposes of the present invention, the lower surface of the cap is formed with an annular flange 11, concentric with the bore Ll, this flange being diametrically slitted at 12 to receive a fine wire 13 following the application of the ball valvein position in the bore. The'wire 13 is forced into the slits 12 and underlies the valve to prevent the escape of the same from the bore 4, while it is obvious thatany dirt or refuse passing through the rbore 4: will immediately fall past the wire and thus be discharged from the vbore and the latter maintained in a cleanly condition to insure a proper operation of the valve.
Claim:
A recessed filler cap for automobile tanks, having a central bore extending substantially throughout the depth of the recess, means for removably connecting a pressure medium in line with said bore, a valve operative in the bore to prevent fluid passage in one direction, a flange on the inner surface of the cap concentric with the bore and extending slightly below the inner surface of the cap, said flange being diametrically slottedv with the slots opening through the lower edge of the flange, and a wire secured in said slots transverse the flange and directly underlying the valve, the wire being spaced from the bottom surface of the cap.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
