WATER HEATEE' Application file August 4, 1924. Serial No. 730,130.
To aZZ whom t may camera:
Be it known that I, EVERT O. HILL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Russellville, in the county of Pope and State of Arkansas, have invented a new and useful Water Heater, of which the following is a specification.
This invention aims to provide novel means whereby water may be heated from an ordinary stove, and particularly from the burner of an oil or gas stove, the heater being so constructed that it may be swung to an out of the way position when not in use, it being possible to draw the water at a point closely adjacent to the stove, or to use the water at a point remote from the stove.
It is within the province of the disclosure to improve generally and to enhance the utility of devices of that sort to which the invention appertains.
In the drawings z-Figure 1 shows in front elevation, a' device constructed in accordance with the invention; Figure 2 is a top plan; Figure 3 is a rear elevation wherein parts are broken away; Figure 4 is a longitu'dinal section of the heater; and Figure 5 is a cross section of the heater.
The numeral 1 designates a stove, preferably but not neoessarily an oil or gas stove. So far as material to the present invention, the stove embodies a Vertical back 2 and a horizontal burner 3.
The numeral 4 designates an ordinary tank. The tank 4 may have a cold water inlet 6 adjacent to its bottom, a hot water Outlet 7 at its top and a pipe 8 extending laterally and downwardly from the top of the tank, the lower portion of the tank being provided with a laterally extended pipe 9. The pipes 8 and 9 may be secured at 5 to the stove back 2. A curved pipe 10 is connected by a hinge joint 11 with the lower end of the pipe 8, a similarly curved pipe 12 being connected by a hinged joint 14 with the pipe 9, the construction being such that the pipes 10 and 12 may be swung horizontally. At its forward end, the pipe 10 carries a faucet 15.
The device comprises a heater 16, which may be of any desired construction. Figure 4 shows that the heater 16 may embody a hollow conical top 17, a hollow cup-shaped base 18, 'and a plurality of pipe coils 19 communicating with the top 17 and the base 18, the coils entering the bottom portion of the top 17 and the inner wall of the cup-shaped base 18. There may be any desired number of the pipe coils 19. The upper portion of the hollow top 17 is connected by a T 21 vwith the pipe 10 to the rear of the faucet 15, the pipe 12 being connected to the hollow base 18, as shown at 22. The member 18 has a flange 23 provided with` an upstanding rim 24 journaled on the flauige 23 within the rim 24, the sleeve being provided with a handle 26 and being provided at its upper end with a hood overhanging the top 17 and provided with openings 51. The sleeve 25 has a slot 52 through which the connection 22 passes.
By means of the handle 26, the heater 16 may be swung to a position above the burner 8, the hinged joint 11 between the pipes 8 and 10, and the hinged joint 14 between the pipes 9 and 12 permitting such an opera.- tion, and when the occasion for the use of the device has passed, the heater 16 may be swung backward away from the stove 1 and into an out of the way position. Because the sleeve 25 can turn on the heater, the handle 26 is always disposed conveniently to the operator whilst the' heater is being swung toward the burner 3 or away from the burner. The sleeve 25 serves to retain the heat about the pipe coils 19.
The water passes from the tank 4 through the pipes 9 and 12 intothe base 18, through the coils 19, through the top 17, and back to the tank 4 by the pipes 10 and 8, the water being heated as it moves through the member 16. The hot water may be drawn of at a point adjacent to the stove 1, through the faucet 15; or, by way of the pipe 7, the hot water which is returned to the tank 4 may be conducted away to a remote point of use.
I claimz-- The combination with a stove having a combustion means, of a heater located 'at all times externally of the stove, water pipes communicating with and carrying the heater, means for mounting the pipes for horizon' tal swinging movement to dispose the heater externally of the stove and above the combnstion means or remote from the combustion means at the will of an operator, a
handle, and means for lnountng the handle swingng of the heatel` by means of the to turn upon the heater, Whereby the handle handle Will not nterfere With the draft. may rema-n convenently dsposed With re- In testmony that I olaim the foregong 10 spect to an operator to enable the heater to as my own I have hereto affixed my sig- 5 be swung to and from the combuston means, nature.
the mountng means being carried by an imperforate part of the heater, Whereby the EVERT O. HILL.
