AIR-HEATING ATTACHMENT FOR STOVES.
Application filed October 18, 1924. Serial No. 744,452.
My invention relates to stoves and its principal object is to provide an air heating attachmentfor stoves which will greatly increase the heating capacity of the stove and at the same time reduce the consumption of fuel to a. minimum.
Another object of the invention is to provide an attachment which can be associated with any heating stove and supported therein in a convenient manner.
Still another object of the invention is to provide a heating attachment for stoves which will draw cold air into the stove and heat the same thence radiating the heated air back into the room to be heated.
With the preceding and other objects and advantages in mind, the invention consists in the novel combination of elements, construction and arrangement of parts and operation to be hereinafter specifically referred to, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view of a stove equipped with my invention.
Figure 2 is a fragmentary view of the top of the ash box showing the grate and air inlet pipe.
Referring to the drawings in detail, wherein corresponding characters of reference denote corresponding parts throughout the several views, the numeral 5 designates a conventional stove with which my invention is associated.
The invention comprises an inverted frusto-conical member 6 arranged centrally within. the stove and formed with a cylindrical hollow member 7 closed at its lower end. This member 6 and its member 7 are formed of cast iron and the bottom of the member 7 is provided with an internally threaded boss 8 in which a threaded coupling 9 is secured. A horizontally disposed air inlet pipe 10 having an elbow engaged with the coupling 9 is disposed in the ash receiving chamber of the stove for the purpose of conducting air into the drum 10. Arranged within the upper end of the stove 5 is a sheet iron drum 10 having its lower edge secured to the upper edge of the inverted frustoconical member as indicated at 11. The upper end of the drum 10 is formed with a tubular outlet pipe 12 which fits within the opening 13.
In the operation of the invention, heat fromthe fire-box of the stove heats air that passes into the drum 10 by way of the pipes 10 and 15 and the connections thereof and the heated air is passed through the outlet pipe 12. The heating of the air within the member 6 and drum 10 causes a flow of air in the pipe and thereby continues to feed cold air into the device. By my improved air heater it will be observed that a maximum amount of air will be continuously fed through the stove which results in a material saving of fuel. A vertically arranged pipe 15 is threadedly engaged in the boss 8 for the purpose of conducting air directly into the drum 10.
While I have shown and described the preferred embodimentof the invention, it will be understood that changes in the arrangement of parts may be made, and that I am only limited by the appended claim.
\Vhat is claimed is The combination with a stove of a heating attachment comprising a cylindrical hollow member adapted to be arranged in juxtaposition with the grate of the stove and rising therefrom, an inverted frusto-conical member formed with the cylindrical hollow member and rising therefrom, a drum having its lower edge secured to the upper edge of the inverted frusto-conical member, an interiorly threaded boss formed in the bottom of the cylindrical hollow member, a vertically arranged pipe threaded in said boss and having its upper end terminating in a line with the juncture of the drum with the inverted trustroconical member, an air conducting pipe horizontally arranged in the ash re ceiving chamber of the stove and being in communication with thevertica-lly arranged pipe, and a tubular outlet pipe rising from the drum and passing through the top of the stove.
