' MANIFOLD OUTLE'li' To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MERLE Cour, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Manifold Outlets, of which I hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description, suchas will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The objects of the invention are to provide means for dispensing with the use of projecting cooks for hot and cold water on the inner side of bath tubs, and to provide means for supplying alternately hot and cold waterto the tub with greater convenience to the user-and without the use of projecting parts which interfere with the free use of the tub and are productive of injury to the user when bathing therein.

Theinvention comprises an independent chamber or manifold of compact form having inlet openings for hot and cold water respectively and a common outlet opening which can be used for each separately, or
for both in a condition of modified tempera- 'ture.
The invention further includes a longitudinally adjustable delivery nozzle extending into the manifold, and means for draining the manifold of the residue of water after the supply valves have been closed. It also includes means for directing the flow of the hot and cold water toward the center of the manifold and to the inlet opening of said nozzle, in such a manner that the currents will cross each other. and make a perfect mixture. 7
The invention further comprises the man ner of construction and arrangement of the various detail parts as hereinafter described, shown in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the claims.

Above the nozzle the ridge or pointed ,lug '9 serves to deflect the currents of water in an ins clined direction so that they will cross and penetrate each other before entering the nozzle, thus thoroughly commingling them; The base of the nozzle or its support 9 is outwardly curved to facilitate the movement of the water upward towardthedeflecting ridge 9 thus causing a regurgitation of the water in the passage to thenozzle and a con sequent complete commingling of the hot and vcold water. At the base of the nozzle a ridge 9 serves to direct the water and keep it circulating. This chamber not only permits of drawing hot and cold water simultaneously from a common nozzle, but the front and end walls thereof are shaped to direct the flow from both ends directly toward the center and toward the discharge nozzle. The front wall is upwardly and inwardly curved to accomplish this result and is also outwardly inclined in flowing lines toward the center to facilitate this result,
7 and the inlet opening G is preferably made flaring to receive the water freely.
The device shown in the figures takes up very little space in the tub and is independent of any faucets, so that all expense for time and labor for repairing or renewing faucets is avoided and greater simplicity of construction and convenience in use is obtained. The manifold and commingling chamber is also suitable for attachment to any tub, and to any water connections of any kind, since the valves controlling the water supply are exterior to the tub and can be of any desired make or construction, and can be positioned in any convenient place about the tub. The nozzle is inclined so as to project the fluid outwardly away from the wall of the tub, and to permit filling a vessel therefrom.
A device of this character is simple and eflicient and universal in use. It takes up no appreciable space in the tub and has no projecting parts which could injure abather.
Having described the invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In combination with a bath tub, an independent manifoldchamber, separate inlet tubes for hot and cold water integral therewith, and an annular outlet member extending beyond thelower wall of said chamber into said chamber and in the direction of the upper wall, but having its inner end spaced therefrom.
2. In combination with a bath tub, an independent vertically placed manifold chamber, supported thereon, integral inlets for hot and cold. water respectively entering said chamber from the rear, and a common supply nozzle communicating with said chamber at its lower edge, said supply nozzle extending inwardly into said chamber, and having its base curved to direct the flow of water toward the inner extremity of the nozzle.
3. In combination with a tub, a manifold chamber, integral inlets for hot and cold water inserted through the wall of said tub, and secured thereto, and communicating with said chamber, a'common central supply nozzle projecting adjustably into said chamber through the lower edge of said Copies of this patent may be obtained for chamber, and deflecting means in the upper wall of said chamber opposite said nozzle.
4. In combination with a bath tub, a closed manifold chamber separate integral inlets for hot and cold water communicating at spaced positions with the rear wall of said chamber, and an inclined supply nozzle extending inwardly into said chamber through and beyond the lower wall thereof, substantially as described.
5. In combination with a bath tub, a manifold chamber, spaced inlet pipes for hot and cold water communicating with said chamber, a supply nozzle communicating with the lower edge of said chamber, and projecting inwardly into said chamber, and means in the outer wall of said chamber opposite the opening of the nozzle for directing the currents of hot and cold water to the inlet opening of said nozzle.
6. A closed independent manifold chamher for hot and cold water, said chamber provided with spaced integral inlets for hot and coldwater and also provided with an inwardly projecting supply nozzle, the front wall of said chamber inclined from the center outwardly to its ends, and upwardly curved to direct the flow of water toward the outlet nozzle, and means positioned in the wall of said chamber, directly adjacent to the inlet opening to said nozzle, for causing the currents of hot and cold water to impinge upon each other in said inlet opening.
7. In combination with a bath tub, an independent manifold chamber, separate inlet tubes for hot and cold water integral therewith, and acommon supply nozzle projecting into the lower edge of said chamber, said nozzle being provided with drainage openings at its base in said chamber.
8. In combination with a bath tub, an independent manifold chamber, separate inlet tubes for hot and cold water integral therewith, and an annular member extending beyond the lower wall of said chamber into said chamber and in the direction of the upper wall, but having its inner end spaced therefrom, and a deflecting member upon the inner face of the upper wall of said chamber opposite the opening in said annular member.
