IMPROVEM ENT IN SASH-HOLDERS.

- Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 154,975, dated September 15, 1874; application filed March 26, 1874.

To all whom it may concern:

' Be it known that I, PERRY G. WRIGHT, of Deep Creek township, in the county of Olinton and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and'useful Improvements in Sash-Holders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanying drawings which form part of this specification, in which drawings- Figure 1 is a front elevation with part of the front of the sash and jamb removed, to show the spring and strip. Fig. 2 is a transverse vertical section, showing the face of jamb with grooves and tapering recesses. Fig. 3 is a side view of spring and strip detached.

My invention relates to window-sash holders; and consists in an elliptical spring having its free ends bent over to hold wooden strips arranged in grooves in the sash and jambs, as hereinafter more fully described.

Arepresentsthewindow-sashhaving grooves 11 b in the edges, and B represents the jambs having grooves b b, and 0 represents elliptical springs fastened in the middle by screws to the bottom of the grooves in the sash, and having their ends bent to hold the strips d which are made to fit loosely in the grooves,

and arranged to extend beyond the edges of the sash, and by the force of the springs are held against the bottom of the grooves in the jambs with sufficient force to hold the sash in place. sash in the frame, the strips are pressed into the grooves in the sash, and the sash pressed sidewise into the frame till the strips spring into the grooves in the jambs. To aid in removing the sash from the frame tapering recesses 0, extending into the grooves b 1;, are formed in the jambs, into which recesses a narrow chisel or other suitable tool may be inserted,to press the strips back into the grooves in the sash. These recesses may be lined with metallic strips or plates to prevent wearing or bruising the jambs in the process of removing the sash.

What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

In combination with strip (1, the spring 0, having the ends bent to hold the strip, substantially as described and shown, for the purpose specified.
