srars IRVING- E. WALKER, OF PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND.
DRIER.
Application led December 15, 1923.
To all who/m. 'it may concer/rt.'
Be it known that I, IRVING E. WTALKEB, a citizen of the United States, residing at Providence, in the county of Providence and State of Rhodel island, have invented new and useful Improvements in Driers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in clothes driers and has for an object the provision of means whereby a drying frame may be removably secured to a radiator for' supporting articles above the same in position t0 receive a maximum quantity of heat.
Another object of the invent-ion is the provision of a drier for this purpose which is simple in construction, will support a relatively large number of articles and which may be easily attached in position for use and readily removed for sto-rage.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention further includes the following novel features and details of construction, to be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a side eleva-tion of the invention applied to a radiator.
Figure 2 is a top plan view.
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken on line 3-3 0f Figure 1.
Figure t is a detail perspective of the attaching device..
Figure 5 is a sectional view taken on line 5-5 of Figure 3.
Referring in detail to the drawings wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts, the reference character 10 indicates a radiator of the usual type employed with steam or hot water heating plants.
The invention which is adapted to be re movably attached to one of the radiator sections comprises a drier frame which includes spaced parallel bars 11. rlhese bars are4 connected substantially centrally of their ends by a transverse bar 12 and are further connected by means of a flexible member 13 which is threaded through spaced openings provided in the bars: 11 upon opposite sides of the bar 12. The flexible member thus forms a number of substantially Serial No. 680,992.
the invention includes novel means for attaching the drier to a radiator. This means includes a block 14; which is substantially wedge-shaped so as to engage the opposed beveled faces of two adjacent sections of the radiator'. The block is slotted as shown at 15 and positioned within this slot is a threaded bolt or screw 16 whose head 17 bears against the outer face of the block. The screw or bolt 16, extends between the sections of the radiator and has mounted upon its outer end a nut 18, the latter belng provided with oppositely extending lugs 19 which extend through openings 2O provided in a substantially channel-shaped arm 21. This arm is provided with an opening 22 for the passage of the screw or bolt 16. rlhe block 14 is further pro-vided with arcuate-shaped recesses 23 in the opposed walls of the slot 15 so as to provide for the reception of the lower end of a standard 24, the opposite end of which has a threaded engagement with the transverse bar 12 of the drier frame, as shown at 25.
By means of the arm 21 and its manner of connection with the block 14, the latter may be secured in position between the sections of the radiator so as to support the frame for use and when not in use, the standard 24 may be removed from the block and if desired the. latter may remain in place so that the drier may be readily replaced.
It will be apparent from the foregoing description and accompanying drawings that the invention provides a relatively light and convenient article which may be attached to a radiator whereby heat from the latter may be utilized for drying purposes. It may be easily adjusted in position for use, or may be readily removed and the parts disassembled and placed in an out-of the-way place. j
The invention is susceptible of various changes in its form, proportions and minor details of construction and the right is herein reserved to make such changes as properly fall within the scope of the appended claim.
Having described the invention what is claimed is A clothes drier of the character described comprising a frame embodying a pair of spaced parallel bars connected intermediate their ends by a transverse bar, a transversely extending flexible member' threaded wit-hin openings provided in the spaced parallel hars, a vertically extending standard connected to the transverse har, a longitudinally slotted substantially Wedgeshaped block threadedly receiving the lower end of the standard and positioned between radiator sections, a threaded bolt extending through the slotted portion of the block and having its head flush With the face thereof, and a channel-shaped arrn received on the opposite end of the threaded bolt and engaging radiator sections.
In testimony whereof I aix my signature.
IRVING E. WALKER.
