IMPROVEMENT IN MACHINES FOR POLISHING SHOW-CASE FRAMES- Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 154,901, dated September 8, 1874; application filed July 27, 1874.
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, F. POLLARD, of Cleve- I land, in the county of Guyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain newand useful Improvements in Machines for Polishing Show-Case Frames and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact construction and arrangement of a machine for polishing show-cases, including a truck for carrying the show-cases to and from the machine and holding them while being polished, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In' order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and-use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawings, in which Figure l is a side elevation of my entire machine, and Fig. 2.is a transverse vertical section of the truck. 7
A A represent two upright parallel posts or standards, between which are pivoted two joists, B B, connected by cross-bars at O O. The joists B and cross-barsO form a tapering frame, wider at the inner than at-th'eouter end. Across the inner end of the frame in suitable boxes is a shaft, a, provided, on one end, with a crank, D, and on this shaft, within the frame, is a Wheel, E, connected by a cord or belt, I), with a pulley, d, on a shaft, 0, across the front end of the frame. On one end of this shaft is the polishing-wheel Gr, composed of a number of round pieces of Woolen cloth or other suitable material firmly fasten ed between washers or disks on the shaft. The frame B O, with the polishing-wheel, is, by means of a cord, h, and pulley f, raised and lowered and suspended at anyv height desired from the floor. The truck is composed of a frame, H, provided with three sets or pairs of Wheels, the center set, m, being larger and lower than the end pairs, n, so that the truck will always rest and move 'on' the center set and one end set of the wheels, it being easily tipped to either end, as required. The end pieces of the truck-frame are arched or elevated in the center, and between their highest central points is pivoted a platform, J, which may be turned to either side, and rest upon the side rails of the frame. On each side edge of the platform J are flanges p p, to support the show-case, and in the top rails of the platform are projecting points x w, to stick in the bottom of the show-case to prevent it from sliding off the truck when it is tipped either way, so that it requires no time to fasten the show-case to the truck. The show-case is laid lengthwise across the truck when the ends are being polished.
The truck will carry a case any length desired, and a boy can, unassisted, run it under the wheel at any angle required, so as to bring any and every part of all the moldings of which the showcase is made in contact with the wheel.
The machine thus constructed will save a vast amount of time, labor, and expense, and at the same time do the work better than it can be done by hand.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The combination of the tilting-frame J and truck-frame H, for holding and adjusting the show-case While the metal part thereof is being polished, substantially as set forth.
2. 'In combination with the tilting-frame J and truck-frame H, the moving frame B G, having shafts a 0, wheels E d, belt b, polishing-wheel G, and adjusting-cord h, as and for the purpose set forth.
