Description
'GQE. NORRIS;
Spring-Bo'ards for Vehicies.
N0. 154,892. v Patented Sgpt.8,1874,
mum V V UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE E. NORRIS, OF GLENS FALLS, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN SPRING-BOARDS FOR VEHICLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. [54,892, dated September 8, 1874 application filed July 25, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE E. NoRRrs, of Glens Falls, Warren county, New York, have invented a new and Improved Support for Spring-Board Wagons, of which the following is a specification:
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 represents a bottom view, and Fig. 2 a side view, of my improved support for spring-board wagons.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The object ofvmy invention is to provide spring-board wagons with a support by which the board may be readily kept level or crowned, as required, and thereby a lighter and better-looking vehicle obtained.
My invention consists of a spring-board, with central springs and longitudinally-connecting bracerods, which are adjustable thereon for setting the board.
In the drawing, A represents the springboard of a wagon, to which is centrally applied the C-shaped supporting-spring B. To the ends of spring B are screwed the bracerods 0, which may be furthermore connected by a spiral spring, D, as shown in the drawmg.
The brace-rods C may be applied to the spiral or'C-shaped spring, or to both, as desired, and are dropped a proper distance below the board to form the support for the same, so as to sustain it and. keep it from settling.
The brace-rods O extend in longitudinal direction along the whole length of the board A, and pass either through perforated lugs a, attached to the same, or through the hind axle and head-block in front, being adjustable by means of nuts b, which screw over the ends of the rods 0.
By setting the nuts, the board may be kept level or crowned, so as to give it an easy motion, and strengthen it in a substantial manner.
The tension of the springs may be regulated by the nuts from time to time, as required, and thereby a superior and better looking spring-board vehicle produced.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent As an improvement in spring-board wagons, the combination, with the board, of central supporting -springs and longitudinal adjustable brace-rods, substantially as specified.
GEORGE E. NORRIS.
Witnesses E. T. SPENCER, D. G. NoRRIs, 2d.
