IMPROVEMENT IN SAW-HANGERS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent N o. l 54,821, dated September 8, 1874; application filed 'April 14, 1873.

To all whom it may concern: v

Be it known that I, EMANUEL ANDREWS, of Williamsport, in the county of Lycoming and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Saw-Hang ers; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon. l

The object sought to be accomplished by my invention is such a construction of the hook of the buckles as gives it more strength and durability, and uniformity of action.

The invention is an improvement upon the i saw-hangers patented to me April, 1868; and

consists in making a cylindrical recess at the inner angle of the hook, all as more particularly described hereafter.

To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will now proceed to fully describe its construction, referring to the drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a side view of the buckle, showing the form of the hook.

A represents the saw; B, the strap secured tothe end of the saw, having beveled edges a. D represents the hook, having at its inner holding angle a cylindrical recess, d.

As hitherto constructed, the hook of the buckle, upon its holding angle, terminated in an angular point, the ei'ect of which was the constant liability of the hook .to break off at the angular point named, and, in addition, to mar the edge of the lip on the saw-gate girt,

vso rthat after an unusual strain had been made upon one saw, and the lip of the saw-gate girt had been indented thereby, upon moving the buckle a little to one side or the other, in order to saw a different thickness of lumber, the hook would not it squarely in place, and the saw would kink. `By making the cylindrical recess, as explained, both of these evil results are avoided.

The result of this construction and the advantage derived from it are, the hooks are more durable, convenient, and accurate in use. v

Having thus described my invention, what I lclaim as new therein is The saw-hook D, provided with acylindrical recess, d, constructed and arrangedto operate substantially as described.
