UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CARL WINKLER; or BERNE, SWITZERLAND. MOLD non cns'r-inefsrnnnorxrn PLATES.
Application filed March 21, 1925 Serial No. 17,372.-
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CARL WINKLER, a citizen of the Swiss Republic, residing at Berne, in the Swiss Republic, have invented new and useful Improvements in Molds for Cast.- ing Stereotype Plates, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to a mold for cast previous to casting a plate, it can be tested whether the matrix has the right position 'in the mold.
In the drawing illustrating the invention by way of example.
Fig. l is a perspective view of the mold in the casting position, and I V Fig. 2 a similar view of the mold with'the matrix clamp, side and foot bars partly raised.
The matrix clamp (1!. turns about the axis b and holds one edge of the matrix. Tothe side bars d the matrix clamp d is connected by pins fastened to saidbars,-which pins project into the guides e on the matrix clamp, so that by raising the inner edge of this clamp from the position in Fig. 1 into that shown 'in Fig. 2, which is done by pressing down the handle 7, the bars d are also raised. At the same time the'footbar g is turned up a little by the side bars. Consequently, the matrix 0 is 'free under the side bars d and the foot bar 9, so that it can take part in the small movement of the matrix clamp. By raising and lowering the clamp it can therefore be ascertained whether the matrix is properly seated in the mold.
What I claim and desire to secure by LettersPatent of the United States is:
A mold for casting stereotype plates comprising in combination a matrix clamp for holding one edge of the matrix, side bars connected to said clamp, a foot bar connected to said side bars, and a handle on said matrix clamp adaptedto tilt said clamp side bars and foot bar, substantially as set forth.
In testimony. whereof I have-signed my name tothis specification inthe presence of two subscribing witnesses.
