UNITED STATES EMILIO RODRIGUEZ ETCHETO, F BUENOS AIRES, ARGENTINA.
PROPAGANDA APPARATUS APPLICABLE TO ELEGTRICAT; FANS OR MOTORS.
Application filed November 9, 1922, Serial No. 599,946.- Renewed February 18, 19 25.
' To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EMILIO RODRIGUEZ E'roHE'ro, a citizen of the Argentine Republic, and a resident of Buenos Aires, Argentine Republic, have invented a new and improved Propaganda Apparatus Applicable to Electrical Fans or Motors, of which the tfollowing is a full, clear, and exact descripion.
My invention refers to a propaganda apparatus which can be affixed to any class of electric fan. For the sake of greater clearness the invention is illustrated in various figures, viz;
Figure 1 is a view in front elevation of an apparatus without disks, but showing the drum or cover to demonstrate the distribu-' tion of the electric bulbs,
device when aflixed to a fan, and
Fi ure 7 is a detail sectional view drawn to a arger scale and showing parts carried by the auxiliary axle,
Figure 8 is a view in side elevation of a double apparatus. I
The apparatus invented by me consists of a number of transparent disks, one withv painted letters constituting the text of the advertisement, another painted in various colors in sectors, a disk of opaque glass, a two-winged obturator disk, some electric bulbs, and a drum or cover enclosing all the disks, the whole apparatus afiixed to a common fan motor.
First of all the blades (11) are taken off the fan (1), and onto the axle of the motor an auxiliary axle (10) is placed serving as a prolongation of the former shaft (see Figs. 2, 6 and 7). This auxiliary axle (10) is affixed to the axle of the motor by means of a screw (12). The drum (2) is then aflixed by'means of "the screws (3) with which the lid of the casing of the motor is fastened onto the motor. Preferably four electric bulbs (4) are affixed within the or some other suitable material is affixed,
the object of this disk being to difi'use the light derived from the bulbs (4). In the centre of the disk (5) is formed a hole of a convenient diameter on the edge of which a grooved ring (13) is applied to serve as supporting seat for a half or entire transparent disk (6) on which the text of the advertisement is written. This disk (6) is exchangeable and is introduced into the apparatus through an opening (22) formed in the circumference of the drum Onto the auxiliary axle (10) is now applied a disk (7 This disk is loose so as to revolve on the axle (10) and, like the others, transparent, and is made from celluloid or some other material and conveniently painted in various sectors or in iris fashion with different colours. This disk is provided with a metal bush (14) and with two or more openings, windows or transparencies (20 and 21) on its surface, serving the object of making it possible to read the let-' tering, and which for this reason must beof the same radius as the letters of the disk (6)., The obturator disk (8) consisting of two great blades or wings is now put on; these blades, which must be black, can be made from tin plate, brass or some other convenient material. The obturator, which may be of various shapes, may in parts consist of transparent coloured material so as to obtain a larger number of shades of colour. The obturator (8) is provided with a bush (17) afl'ixed to it by means of screws. This bush (17) has a pressure screw (18) for fastening it onto the auxiliary axle (10). Between the disk (7) and the obturator (8) a ring (16) is afiixed, same being made'from gutta-percha, rubber, ebonlte or some other adequate material so as to produce friction against the disk (7) and thus imparting variable revolutions to same according to the degree of its rubbing against the ring (16) which may be tightened at will by means of the bush (17) of the obturator 8) Finally a disk of clear glass (9) is now put onto the frame or edge of the drum (2) allowing the axle to revolve freely since the disk (9) is provided with a sufficiently large hole in the centre. y
Once all this has been done the blades of the fan are affixed at the extremity of the auxiliary axle. 1
In the drum (2), conveniently distributed, some ventilation holes "have been provided.
As shown in Fig. 8 a double apparatus can also be constructed using the two extremities of the motor axle. n
In cold weather or in the winter the fan can also be used as a propaganda apparatus by simply taking the blades off.
The working is very simple since when the fan is started, same and the obturator revolve with the identical high number of revolutions, and, in consequence, the obturator by means of the ring (16), which, as already stated above, is made from rubber,
gutta-percha or some other material, and the axle itself, also impart high revolutions to the transparent disk painted in various colours, but these revolutions instead of being constant are alternating according to the .time of friction with the ring, and 1n conformity with these alternating revolutions the inscriptions of the disk (6) appear. The bulbs aflixed behind all the disks light up the whole so that when the colour disk performs its alternating revolutions 1n combination with the high and constant revolutions of the obturator, the effect of varicoloured rings changing every moment is produced, and in these rings the inscriptions appear periodically, the whole producing an aesthetic effect which also catches the eye.
Having thus described my invention and the manner of putting it into practice, I declare that what I claim as my invention and exclusive property is:
1. A device of the character described, comprising a stationary translucent member, a source of light at the rear of said member, a stationary transparent member forward of the first member and having characters thereon, a rotatable member forward of the last named member and having slots through which said characters may be observed and also having colored sections, and a rotatable obturator forward of the said rotatable member.
