In order to fill up the mouth of the gap andy cover the drags a' single capping piece is employed. It will be noted that the walls of the gap incline towards each other and give the gap a tapered form. Accordingly, the Acapping piece also is .of taperedl form corresponding to the shape of the gap.
The capping piece rests'on the bed plate 10 and is provided with arches 44 on its underside which bridge Lover all'the drags so as not to interfere with their function,

A printing cylinder having a gap, a plurality of drags disposable in the gap formed to hook into each slotted end therein of a sheet wrapped around the cylinder, means for securing each drag tothe bed of the gap providing a pivotal connection bel tween the drags and securing means, whereby each drag member is free to rock Vand thereby compensate for any difference in the length of the ends of a sheet within the gap, a capping piece disposed over the drags to substantially fill the gap, compressible packing strips lodged between each side of the capping piece and the walls of the gap, and means fori securing said capping piece in said gap operating to draw the capping piece into the gap whereon the packing strips are compressed between the sides of the capping piece and the lwalls of the gap, and a continuous cylindrical pe-4 riphery for the cylinderthereby obtained.
