Q ATTORNEY ITNESS:
Patented July 7, 1925,
UNITED STATES cnoaer. BRYANT, or 'rHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
LUNCH Box.
Application filed. June 25, 1923. Serial No. 647,697.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Gnoncn BRYANT, a
citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Lunch Boxes, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to lunch boxes and is particularly directed to foldable lunch boxes. One of the principal objects of the present invention is to provide a box of this nature which shall also form a suitable container in which to heat the food and drink which may be stored therein.
Another object of the invention is to provide a lunch box with a suitable heating system.
With these and other objects in view as will be more apparent, the invention consists in certain novel construction and combination and arrangement of parts, the essential features of which are hereinafter fully described, are particularly pointed out in the appended claim, and are illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is. a vertical sectional view of a lunch box constructed in accordance with my invention.
Figure 2 is a similar view of the device in collapsed condition.
Figure 3 is a perspective view of the lamp per se.
Like characters of reference refer to like parts in all the views.
Referring to the drawing in detail, 10, 11 and 12 represent the upper, intermediate and lower sections of a lunch box, the upper section 10 being provided with a frame 13 for holding the smaller receptacles hereinafter described, and being provided with a hingedly mounted cover 1 1. The bottom section 12 is provided with a floor 15 and with a horizontal partition 16. and between the two there are formed a number of apertures or air vents 17. One side of the por tion between the plates 15 and 16 is left open to a sufficient extent to accommodate the fuel tank hereinafter described. The upper portion of the member 12 forms a compartment in which water is placed as shown at 18, which when heated circulates about the receptacles so as to heat up their contents.
Slidably mounted in any suitable manner between the plates 15 and 16 is a fuel tank I 19 provided at its inner end with a suitable burner 20 and near its outer end with a fill-' ing aperture 21 into which the end of a funlriiel may be introduced so as to fill the tan i Mounted in the receptacle formed by the three portions 10, 11, 12, are a pair of col-- lapsible containers; each of these containers is. made'up of a plurality of sections connectedin telescoping relation, so as to permit them to be telescoped one within the other for collapsing the containers into a relatively small space. Oneof the containers which is made up of the sections 22, 23, 24
' and 25 ispreferably rectangular shaped in cross section, while the container made up of the sections 28, 29, 80, and 31 is preferably circular in cross section. The bottom sections 25 and 31 of the containers are seated in the depressed or downwardly curved portions of the base or bottom plate 16, which, together with the frame 13 holds the receptacles in proper place within the boxes.
It will be readily understood that when it is desired to heat the lunch the fuel is ignited at the burner 20, and as the burner heats the water between the two receptacles,
the water is placed in circulation about the receptacles and heating of the food is soon effected. After the contents of the recep tacles has been disposed of, the box and the.
receptacles may all be collapsed into a small space so as to be capable of being carried in;
the pocket.
While I have described what I deem to be the most desirable embodiment of my inven tion, I do not limit myself to the specific detailsof construction of material, nor to anything less than the whole of my invention as defined in the appended claim.
What I claim In a device of the class described, a body box comprising a plurality of telescopically connected sections to provide a collapsible body box, a bottom plate supported within the bottom section of said telescopically connected sections, said bottom section provided with air openings therein beneath said bot- GEORGE BRYANT.
