SMOKERS STAND.
Application filed. March 9, 1925. Serial No. 14,302.
To all-whom it may concern: g
Be it known that I, BEnNHARD SCHAEEER,
a citizen of the United States of Amercounty of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented a certain new and useful Improvemer t in Smokers Stands, of which the followlng is a specification.
ash-tray I This invention relates to the'convenient article of companion-service furniture used mainly by tobacco, smokers and commonly known as smokers stands that are ordinarily composed of usually light pedestals surmounted by receptacles for the' ashes, partly used cigars and used matches, as well as supporting arms or holders for the temporary resting of the cigars and unused matches, and the object of the invention herein is to provide a removable ash tray or cup in the bottom of the said receptacle whereby the contents of the tray can be easily handled and emptied without disturbing or handling the stand itself nor any other part thereof, or thing thereon.
The details of structure of the improved stand will be full hereinafter described in connection with t e accompanying sheet of drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of the improved smokers companion-service stand embodying my invention; Figure 2, a perspective view showing the said removable taken apart from the stand; and Figure 3, a vertical section of the upper part of the stand, taken on the dotted line 3, 3, of Figure 1, to-show most clearly the said removable ash-tray improvement here- 4 indicates the upright rod or tubing forming, with its base 5, the supportingpedestal of the stand.
- section, Fig.
6 indicates (as a whole) the main receptacle surmounting the upper end of the said pedestal rod or tubing 4 and composed of a bowl 7 having a flanged rim 8 or grated extension-bottom, all preferably made or cast integral. The extension-bottom is asomewhat deep one and has at the lower ends of its vertical spider-arms 9 a horizontal hub or centrally-orificed boss 10 that is internally threadedfor the engagement of the threaded upper end of the 4, as best shown in the" said rod or tubing 3. The upper end or edge of grated or barred extension-bottom easily the said and an open.
cleansable Well or chamber is thus provided by said extension-bottom for a removable cup or tray 12 whose upper edge or rim is laterally extended or flanged at 13 for seating or resting on the said shoulder 11 in the centrally-orificed bottom of the saidbowl or main receptacle 7. The cup 12 is made of metal, pottery-ware, or any other suitable material adapted to its purpose herein. 1
An arched cross-wire 14 is anchored at its opposite .ends in the upper edge of the said removable cup or tray '12 for use in facilitating the handling of the cup to and from place in the said bowl or receptacle 7 and, also, for very convenient and effective use in stripping ashes from the cigars of the smokers that have the stand in handy position alongside them when in use.
Concave, radial rests 15 are provided along the flanged rim 8 of the bowl 7, for supporting the cigars while in use and with their lit ends disposed inwardly, for the proper dropping of the ashes into the bowl. An upright match-box holder 16 is also provided on the said flanged rim 8, the same as in many of the smokers stands in general use.
The removable ash-tray is preferably a somewhat deep one, for accommodating a quantity of ashes and other refuse dropped into the bowl and thereby further avoid the heaping up of the said refuse in the bowl.
The ash-tray can be easily removed from place, whenever desired, to empty its contents, and without lifting or otherwise disturbing the stand itself that heretofore had to be raised and then turned upside down, or tilted sidewise, to empty the contents of the bowl that also disturbed the cigars and the matches on the rim of the bowl and,
therefore, was very inconvenient and unrod 4 provided with a screw-threaded connection at its opposite ends with the bowl drop-extension and the base 5, whereby it can be easily and cheaply made and then compactly packed for'stock, boxing, handling and shipping.
I claim 1. As an article of manufacture, a smokers stand comprising a pedestal, a bowl or main receptacle surmounting said pedestal" and and having a centrally-orificed bottom,
that has its main upright a removable cup or tray seating in the said orificed bottom of the bowl and adapted to contain ashes and other refuse dropped in the bowl. 7
2. As an article of manufacture, a smokers stand comprising a pedestal, a main receptacle or bowl surmo'unting said pedestal, a shouldered central orifice in the bottom of the said bowl, a deep tray or cup provided with a handle and having a flanged or extended rim adapted to engage the said shouldered central orifice in the said bowl for removable support, and an open, drop or pendent extension-bottom provided on the bowl for accommodating the said tray or cup in removable position or place for the reception and easy discharge of the ashes and other refuse therefrom without mo'vin or disturbing the stand itself, substantially as shown and described.
