UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE sMoKERs TABLE SET Mary T. "Klein, San Diego, Calif. Application June 24, 1936, Serial No. 87,056 4 Claims. .(Cl. 131-51) relates to a smokers table set. cigars and cigarettes, and
This invention which, at times, aids Among the objects of the invention are: in supporting them. To provide a walled-in, open-topped structure Referring in detail to the drawing, .the stepped, which will house the articles pertaining to a open topped, laterally walled in structure In is 5 Smoking set as completely as possible without shown detachably supported upon a table top H. interfering with their withdrawal for use, to Said structure may be made of any suitable maarrange the compartments for receiving said arte ial, for xampl of a p s i su s an e such holes in an improved stepped manner with a view as Bakelite The attaching means shown, by to affording more ready accessibility to said arway of example, consists of a reversible (usable l0 tlcles and at the same time maintaining each on the right or left side) sheet metal clip l2. item as separate from the others as 18 desired, to Said clip projects thru a slit I3 provided thereprovide means safely to support a drinking reforfl adjacent to the floor l3f ofthe structure, ceptacle in a segregated protected manner in rehe projecting portion of said clip being shown lation to the other articles of the set; to provide arcuate to conform to the edge portion of the '15 an improved wiping means whereby the bottom table illustrated, an attaching screw l2a passing 16 of a goblet or glass may readily be wiped free thru a countersunk hole provided therefor in the of moisture each time it is to be used, to pro- 0111 The inn r pa t f. aid p en a s the vide simplified means to removably attach the fi r 31 Wit a ppi fi set to a card players table or other desirable sup- The ash tray container l is the P z 20 port, m su h manner as t effe t a spaceand shape to receive the removable ash tray Ma 20 ecohomizing lt; and t provide improved which is furnished at each end of its top with means to guard against the upsetting of goblets a cigarette or cigar rest Mb Said container used by smokers to provide an improved cig has a shallow recess .1: in the upper edge of rette holding means, to provide a superior means each d Wa l to c e he rests 417. 'Fig. 4 is a perspective separately shown; and
Fig. 5 is a perspective view of a removable 55 rest or extinguisher to be used in putting out view of the match rest,
the match container 2!. On the bottom portion of the cigarette compartment is l shown a spacer plate 200 which is shaped as a broad inverted rectangular U. Both of the end flanges of this plate are cut away or recessed at 208 to provide a clearance for the inner portion of the clip l2. Said plate 200 may be removable, and is provided for the purpose of elevating the cigarette package at a desirable distance above the floor Hf whereby it will be protected from rupture by the clip and any moisture from the glass will be prevented from saturating the articles to be smoked, and at the same timeprotrading and rendering accessible to the fingers the .upper portion of the package above the compartment therefor. The plate 200 supports the package of cigarettes a, and in the match-container compartment 2| is a backer or holder 2la containing matches 2"). Within said compartment 2| is a removable match rest which preferably consists of a sheet metal strip 2i: shaped as an inverted rectangular U.
The compartment 2| containing the matches 2 lb is the highest and the narrowest of the three laterally walled in compartments. Near its top and projecting from its rear wall 21 is supported an approximately se -circular leaf spring 22 the arms of which are positioned to receive and safely retain a drinking glass 23. Owing to the stepup character of the structure l0 clip 22 may be supported at the height necessary to afford a dependable stabilizer for the drinking glass or goblet which it releasably grips. Attached to or else integral with the base portion of the sheet metal structure ill is an arcuate plate 24 which, has an upstanding peripheral flange 25. Said plate 24 isdesigned to support the glass"; or a goblet may be substituted for said glass, in which case its base will rest uponthe plate. A slot 26 at the foot of the back wall 21 may be provided in order to make room for a part of the base portion of a goblet.
A semi-circular or horse shoe-shaped wiper 30, preferably of a soft rubber character, is detachably mountable upon the upstanding flange of the plate 24. Said wiper is furnished with a longitudinal groove 3i wide enough to grip said flange snugly. Before drinking from the glass the user may brush the bottom surface of its base across the upper side of the wiper 30 thus removing the moisture, if any, from said base.
When a goblet is supported upon the plate 24, the base flange of said goblet may be shifted to a position wherein the arcuate wiper 30 overhangs its edge, thereby serving to safeguard against upsetting of the goblet, even tho, in this instance, the spring clip 22 be dispensed with.
When the device is attached to the table top it is preferably located as shown in Fig. 1 with the I ash tray containing portion I in an overhanging relation to the adjacent portion of the table top, thus economizing table top space and leaving more room for other articles or for space to be used in card playing or for other purposes.
It will be observed that the ash tray container i4 is located at the front side of the housins structure In and the appendages 22 and 24 for keeping the drinking glass in place are located at the opposite or rear side of said housing. This arrangement safeguards against ashes falling into the beverage contained in the drinking glass or the fumes from a rested cigarette from contaminating the. drink contained in the glass.
It should be understood that the present disclosure is for the purpose of illustration only and that this invention includes all modifications and equivalents which fall within the scope of the subject matter claimed.
What is claimed is:
- 1. The combination with a smokers table set comprising a base member supporting a plurality of open topped laterally walled-in compartments secured to each other and to said base member and arranged in a front to rear series, of means secured to and.extending rearwardly from the rear wall of the rear compartment of the series and said base member to support a drinking receptacle mounted upon said base member.
2. In a smokers table set, the combination of a base member partly rectangular and partly circular in'plan, a plurality of open topped laterally walled-in compartments secured to each other and to the rectangular portion of said base member, the side walls of said compartments being arranged in an ascending zis-zas front to rear fashion, and clamping means secured to and extending outwardly said base member from the outer wall of the tallest compartment to grip yieldingly a drinking vessel mounted upon said; circular portion.
3. The subject matter of claim'2 and, the circular portion of said base plate having an upstanding marginal flange, and a soft rubber horseshoe shaped wiper='mounted upon the edge portion of said flange for wiping the bottom of the drinking vessel when it is detached for drinking purposes, there being a slot in the outer wallof the tallest compartment at the juncture where the circular portion joins the rectangular portion through which to project the foot portion of a footed drinking vessel to restrain tipping when such vessel is mounted upon said circular portion.
4. A base having a rectangular bottom portion which is furnished with an arcuate portion having a seat to receive a drinking receptacle, said rectangular portion of said base having formed therein a stair-like series of open-toppedreceptacles which are arranged in an ascending order from the front of the base to said arcuate portion thereof, the receptacle of said series adjacent to said seat of said arcuate portion forming an abutment of a sufflcient height to safeguard against upsetting of a drinking glass positioned upon said seat, and a spring member carried by the last recited member and having arms to grip yieldingly a glass mounted as aforesaid.
