J. H. DOUB DISPATCH HOLDER -Filed Feb. 28, 1925 9 iiih.

Patented July 7, 1925.
UNI-TED STAT-Es JOHN H. '-DOUB, OF WALNUT,
'DISPATCH HOLDER.
Application led February 28, 1925.
To all fac/7mm it may concern Be it known that I, JOHN H. DoUB, a citizen of the United States, residing at lValnut, in the county of Crawford and State of Kansas, have invented a new and useful Dispatch Holder, of which the following is a specification.
rI'his invention relates to dispatch holders especially designed for transferring dispatches from station agents or the like to engineers of trains, while the trains are in operation, the primary object of the invention being to provide novel means whereby the dispatch holder may be readily dctached from the handle portion thereof, thereby insuring against damage to the dispatch holder while being transferred.
Another important object of the invent-ion is to provide means for reinforcing the dispatch holder at a point adjacent to the handle to insure against the holder splitting.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a novel form of dispatch holder wherein the same will be cheap to manufacture and at the same time be strong and durable in use. j
lVith the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Referring to the drawing:
Figure 1 is an elevational view of a dispatch holder constructed in accordance with the invention.
Figure 2 is a sectional view taken on line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken on line 3 3 of Figure 1.
Figure 4 is a longitudinal sectional view through one side of the handle section of the loop portion of the dispatch holder.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the reference character 5 indicates the handle portion of the Ydispatch holder which is formed with a socket disposed at one end thereof, which socket is designed to accommodate the end portion 6 of the body portion of the loop-like holder.
Serial N'o. 12,295.
The body portion is formed by splitting a length of suitable wood material at a point intermediate its side edges, bending the outer portions thereof into a loop as indicated at 7, the ends of the members formed by the splitting' operation, being brought together in overlapped relation as shown at S, where they are secured by means of rivets 9.
Formed in the outer surface ofthe loop portion or body of the dispatch holder, is a groove 1() in which the reinforcing wire 11 is positioned, portions of the wire adjacent to the end portion 6 extending transversely through the members of the body portion as indicated at 11', where they pass along the inner surfaces of the loop portion to a point adjacent to the handle The reinforcing wires at this point pass outwardly as at 12 where they are bent upwardly at 13 to lie in close engagement with the body portion.
In order to secure the ends 13 into engagement with the body portion, a securing rod 14 is provided which is wrapped around the ends 13. Due to the construction of the body portion, jaws 15 are provided, between which jaws the dispatch to be delivered, is positioned. Metallic strips 16 are secured to the adjacent surfaces of the jaws and are held in position by means of the rivets 17.
In the use of the device, the dispatch to be delivered is folded and positioned between strips 16 where the dispatch is gripped.
The person delivering the dispatch now holds the device by thehandle 5 in such position that the engineer may pass his arm through the loop or body portion of .the de vice, to the end that the body portion will be removed from the handle 5.
From the foregoing it will be obvious that the person delivering the dispatch may tightly grip the handle 5 to prevent the body portion from twisting under wind pressure in such a way that the gripping of the handle will not in any way affect the transferring of the dispatch holder from one person to another.
I claim In a dispatch holder, a body portion having a groove formed exteriorly thereof and having openings communicating with the groove, a Wire disposed within the groove and having portions thereof passing through the openings and engaging the inner sur In testimony that I claim the foregoing as faces of the body portion, said Wire having my own, I have hereto affixed my signature its ends passing laterally through the body in the presence of two Witnesses.
portion and bent into close engagement with JOHN H. DOUB. the body portion, and a securing Wire Witnesses: y
wrapped around the body portion and bent BEN BAILEY,
ends of the Wire. JOHN HAYDEN.
