' STOCK sAL'TER.
Application filed" November the following to be a full, clear, and exact l description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.y
The invention relates to stock salters, and has for its object to provide a device of this character comprising a pivoted receptacle pivotally mounted on a stand and having one of its sides opened through which open side stock may have access to the chamber of the receptacle in which salt is disposed. Also to provide in combination with the pivoted receptacle, a vane, which vane forms means whereby the open side ofthe receptacle is maintained b-y means of the wind on the leeward, thereby preventing rain from being driven into the open side of the receptacle and dissolving the salt, thereby causing loss of salt or reducing the salt to a liquid which the cattle will drink, which often causes cattle to die.
A further object is to detachably secure the base of the receptacle in which said receptacle pivots to a supporting stand, thereby allowing the device to be easily disassembled fOr repair purposes.
7 ith the above and other objects in view the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawings, described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the 'invention may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawings- Figure 1 is a vertical sectional View through the upper end of the stand and the salt receptacle.
Figure 2 is a front elevation of the device.
Figure 3 is a horizontal sectional view taken on line 3 3 of Figure 1.
Referring to the drawings, the numeral 1 designates a stand, which stand comprisesr vertically disposed and spaced members 2,v
the up-per ends of which at opposite sides thereof are connected togetherby means of horizontally disposed bars 3, thereby forming a krectangular shaped opening 4 in the 25, 11921. serial 110.5154535.
lupper endiof .the standard which is :re-
ceived a removable base 5. Base 5 is held within the opening 4 by means of transversely disposed bolts 6 which extend through the members 2 and through the base 5, thereby not only rigidly holding the base but at the same time holding the same in such a way that it may be easily removed. The base 5 has pivotally mounted therein a bearing sleeve 7, on the upper end of which bearing sleeveis secured by means of a bolt 8, a`salt receptacle 9. During the pivotal action of the salt receptacle 9, the bearing sleeve 7 -turns in the'bearings 10 and 11 ofk oBANonvILLE, ILiLLINoIsKAssIGNOR or ONE-HAL "ro n. M. Iannsnn, or ORANGEVILLE, ILLINOIS.
horizontally and in the direction of the front 17 of the receptacle 9, therefore it will be seen that wind will through the medium of the vane 16 maintain the open side 17 of the receptacle 9 to leeward, and consequently prevent wind from blowing vinto the cham.-
From the above it will be seen that a pivoted salting device is provided, which is simple vin'construction and one which' may be easily dismantled for repair purposes.
The invention having been set forth what is claimed as new and useful is A support for a pivoted receptacle comprising a horizontally disposed rectangularly shaped frame, opposite sides of said frame forming supporting legs for the support, a horizontally disposed rectangularly shaped frame disposed Within the first mentioned frame and formed from spaced rectangular shaped members, spacing strips at opposite sides oi the rectangular shaped members, bolts extending through the upper ends of the sides of the first mentioned frame and the spacing strips, a bearing sleeve extending through registering apertures of the rec'- tangular shaped members, the upper end of GEORGE MILLIKEN.
