J. FOURNIER CHECK Filed Nov, 28. 1924 INVENTOR Al IORNEY Patented June 16, 1925.
UNITED STATES JOSEPH FOURNIER, 0F S OMEBSWORTH, NEW HAMPSHIRE.
CHECK.
Application filed November 28, 1924. Serial No. 752,779.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH FOURNIER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Somersworth, in the county of Strafford and State of New Hampshire, have invented new and useful Improvements in Checks, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to checks for the picker sticks of looms, the general object of the invention being to provide a pair of members which are spaced apart a less distance than the width of the stick, with means for resiliently holding the members against outward movement so that the stick entering the space will force the members apart and thus be checked by the resistance of the members to this movement.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claims.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a view showing the invention in use.
Figure 2 is an edge View of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a section on line 33 of Figure 1.
In these views, 1 indicates a portion of the lay-of the loom and 2 indicates a portion of the picker stick. In carrying out my invention I fasten a pair of brackets 3 to the lay and each bracket adjustably supports a block 4:. A .U-shaped member 5 has its ends passing through the blocks and fastened thereto by the nuts 6. A pair of angle members 7 is supported by the member 5, each member 7 having a hole through which passes the bight of the member 5 and an angle slot 8 through which passes a limb of the member 5. Thus each member 7has a certain amount of movement on the member 5. This movement is resisted by a coil spring 9 placed on the member 5 and pressing against the upper end of the member 7 and against a collar 10 adjustabl mounted on each limb of the member 5. is adjustably mounted on the bight of the member 5 at the center thereof and acts to collar 11 spare and this movement is resisted by the springs 9 so that the stick is gradually checked in its movement. The tension of the springs can be adjusted by adjusting the collars l0 and the distance apart of the limbs 5 can also be adjusted by adjusting the blocks 4 on the brackets 3. This will provide means for adjusting the entrance space for the stick between the members 7.
The device can be used without the facing strips 12 though I prefer to use these.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim is l. A picker stick check comprising a U-shaped member, a pair of angle members having openings therein through which the bight and limbs of the U-shaped member pass, means for holding the angle members in spaced relation so to permit the picker stick to pass between them and springs on the. U-shaped member and engaging the angle members for yieldingly holding the members against outward movement.
2. A picker stick check 7 brackets attached to a part of a loom, blocks comprising adjustably connected to the brackets,.a U-
shaped member having its ends supported by the blocks, a pair of angle members having openings therein through which the bight and limbs of the U-shaped member pass, a collar 011 the bight of the U-shaped member for holding the angle members in spaced relation, springs on the U-shaped member engaging the angle members for holding them against outward movement and means for adjusting the tension of said springs. y
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
' JOSEPH FOURNIER.
