SLUB CATCHER Filed Sept. 20, 192-;
Patented June 16, 1925.
JOHN o. MOKEAN, or wnsrrrnnn, MASSAC COMPANY, OF WESTFIELD, vmssAoH SETTS.
HUSETTS, ASSIGNOR TO rosrnn MACHINE usn'r'rs, A CORPORATION OF MASSACHU- SLUIB CATCHER.
'Application filed September 20, 1924. Serial No. 788,890.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN O. .MOK AN, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Vestfield, in thecounty of Hampden and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Slub Catchers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to slub catchers having combs for engaging the yarn, the object being to provide certain improvements in the slub catcher whereby the comb may be brought toward and away from its coacting member without disturbing its parallelism therewith.
A practical embodiment of my invention is represented in the accompanying drawings, in which Fig. 1 represents the slub catcher in top plan.
Fig. 2 represents the slub catcher in side elevation.
Fig. 3 represents the slub catcher in front elevation.
The slub catcher herein shown consists of a cast bracket comprising an integral resilient yoke, the lower branch 1 of which is provided near its outer endwith a horizon tal hole 2 therethrough for the reception of a bracket supporting bar 3, a set screw 4 being provided for clamping the bracket to the said bar.
A loop is formed at one side of the lowei branch 1 of the yoke, which loop comprises the lateral members 5, 6 and the longitudinal member 7. An arm 8 projects forwardly from the lateral member 6 of the. loop to form a suitable yarn support. A pin 9 uprises from the arm 8, upon which pin is loosely mounted the weighted tension washer 10, between which washer and arm the yarn passes on its way to the slub catching device, to be immediately described.
The lower branch 11 of the integral re silient yoke is provided at its outer end with an uprising lug 12 from which projects a lateral rod 13 clamped in the lug by the set screw 14. This lateral rod 13 forms a pivotal support for the arms 15, 16 of the comb holder 17, to which holder is adjustably secured by the set screw 18 the back 19 of the comb with the teeth 20 of the comb spaced from and in parallelism with the upper surface of the lateral member 5 of the loop which is formed at one side of the lower branch 1 of the yoke. A stop pin 21 On the upper branch 11 of the yoke serves to the comb holder on its pin 13.
:The means which I haveprovided for bringing the upper branch 11 of the inte gral resilient yoke out of its normal position to vary the distance between the-comb and its coacting member 5 to adjust the comb to yarns of various sizes while retaining the comb in parallelism with said member, is shown as an adjusting screw, the shank 22 passing through the upper branch 11 and across the k ment with the lower branch 1, and the head 23 of which adjusting screw being preferably countersunk in a recess 24 in the upperbranch 11.
As the device is shown, the adjusting screw is arranged when screwed downwardly to spring the 'upper branch 11 of the yoke toward the lower branch 1, to bring the comb closer its coacting member 5 without disturbing the parallelism of the comb with respect to said member, the spring in the upper branch of the yoke serving to move the comb away from its coacting member as the adjusting screw is unscrewed.
From the above description it will be seen that I have provided simple and effective means for adjusting the comb of the slub catcher to suit yarns of various sizes while still maintaining the comb in parallelism with its coacting member. 7
It is evident that. various changes may be resorted to in the construction, form and arrangement of the several parts without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention; hence, I do not wish to limit myself to the particular embodiment herein shown and described, but
What I claim is 1. A slub catcher comprising an integral resilient yoke having two branches, one branch having a lateral member, the other branch provided with a lateral pin, a comb 'pivoted on said pin in position to coact with said lateral member, and means for springing one branch to vary the distance between the comb and its coacting member.
2. A slub catcher comprising an integral resilient yoke having two branches, one branch having a lateral member, the other branch provided with a lateral pin, a comb pivoted on said pin in position to coact with yoke into screw-threaded engagesaid lateral member, a stop for limiting the swinging movement of the comb on its pin, and means for springing one branch to vary the distance between the comb and its coacting member.
3. A slub catcher comprising an integral resilient yoke having two branches, one branch having a lateral member, the other branch being provided with a lateral pin, a comb pivoted on said pin coacting with and parallel to said lateral member, and means for springing one branch to vary the distance between the comb and its coacting member and at the same time maintaining their parallelism.
l. A slub catcher comprising an integral resilient yoke having two branches, one branch having a lateral member, the other branch being provided with a lateral pin, a comb pivoted on said pin coacting with and parallel to said'lateral member, a stop for limiting the swinging movement of the comb on said pin, and means for springing one branch to vary the distance between the comb and its coacting member and at the same time maintaining their parallelism.
5. A .slnb catcher comprising an integral resilient yoke having two branches, one branch having a lateral member, the other branch being provided with a lateral pin, a holder pivoted on said pin, a comb carried by the holder parallel to and in position to coact with said lateral member, and means for springing one branch to vary the distance between the comb and its coacting member and at the same time maintaining their parallelism.
6. A slub catcher comprising an integral resilient yoke having two branches, one branch having a lateral member, the other branch being provided with a lateral pin, a holder pivoted on said pin, a comb carried by the holder parallel to and in position to coact with said lateral member, a stop for limiting the swinging movement of the holder on the pin, and means "for springing one branch to vary the distance between the comb and its coacting member and at the same time maintaining their parallelism.
In testimony, that I claim the foregoing as my invention, I have signed my name this th day of June, 1924.
JOHN O. MoKEAN.
